Autumn arrives at 1119am this morning, and we celebrate this changing of the seasons!

It’s #apple harvest time on the #SaanichPeninsula, and has been for generations! Back in 1931, this harvest went in the "Vancouver Island Apples" bin.

August is done, September flew by, & we're back to December. That’s eras in months.
Speaking of eras, DYK we do #ErasTours in our everyday work @ #LogCabinMuseumAndArchives? Yep, tour eras of local history in the Museum & research eras in the Archives.

This post is not just a shameless attempt to interest younger people and Taylor fans in our Museum. It is also a shameless plug for locals to join us for Christmas in the Cabin. Oh, and of course to try to get younger people interested in the history of where they live! The photo is from our Archives, of a Police Ball in the Agricultural Hall (F2051Ph #4). We don’t know the era…errrr…date, and we don’t know who was performing the music, we did get your attention. Thank you! Photo shows a poster for the 20th Saanichton Community Christmas events, organised by the Saanichton Village Association. Included on the poster is the event at the Log Cabin Museum - we'll have Christmas In The Cabin and will be handing out Cookie Kits for children to take home and decorate! So come visit Saanichton Village this Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

George Butler's 1862 letter to his future wife, Fanny Brett. It was partially written while on a ship. The language is distinctly of the time, and he makes unflattering observations of pre-earthquake San Francisco. Our Archives has a typed copy for legibility. A “Buy Canadian” flyer tucked in a BC Cement Co receipt sent to Richard Nimmo in 1934. The flyer asked customers to buy produced-in-Canada goods to increase employment in our country! A 1920 invoice from Brackman-Ker Milling Co to J.A. Bell for alfalfa meal and shorts. The whole delivery came to $9.80, including the .50 freight charge! A 1976 hand-drawn greeting card by Willard Michell, while he was in Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

Alfred Few was a dairyman in #Saanich (c. early 1900s), later logging at Mt Newton #CSaan.
