We’re all agreed that while listening to books is fine, it’s also not the same as reading?

You can’t interrogate and get under the skin of the text in the same way.

There’s a difference between, for want of a better word, ‘consuming’ literature and engaging with it.

The latter is for reading.

given that this is TV and TV is BS fantasy 25% is probably pretty good. It is a bit of an odd mix of children book and really advanced literature like Proust.

Ahhh Goodreads Choice Awards season. Time to feel massively humbled about my knowledge of contemporary literature.

We were supposed to be an English literature class, but Miss Nesbitt used literature to teach real life. She said she didn't have time to teach us like a regular English teacher--we were too far behind. Instead, she taught us the world through literature.

Well, it's obviously meant to be transgressive, and I don't think there was any poor Bev in the scenario. King wasn't transgressive enough, to let the boys interact, though 😂 King certainly know much about the psychosexual parts of horror writing, gothic literature etc., & while...

Unabridged, clean audio, optimized for a smooth listening experience. Enjoying this classic? Follow the show and leave a quick review. New episodes every Tuesday & Thursday. Get the physical book here: https://amzn.to/3HMYMac DAVID COPPERFIELD David Copperfield is the story of a young man's adventures on his journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among the gloriously vivid cast of characters he encounters are his tyrannical stepfather, Mr Murdstone; his brilliant, but ultimately unworthy school-friend James Steerforth; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble, yet treacherous Uriah Heep; frivolous, enchanting Dora Spenlow; and the magnificently impecunious Wilkins Micawber, one of literature's great comic creations. In David Copperfield - the novel he described as his 'favourite child' - Dickens drew revealingly on his own experiences to create one of the most exuberant and enduringly popular works, filled with tragedy and comedy in equal measure. This edition uses the text of the first volume publication of 1850, and includes updated suggestions for further reading, original illustrations by 'Phiz', a revised chronology and expanded notes. In his new introduction, Jeremy Tambling discusses the novel's autobiographical elements, and its central themes of memory and identity.

An example in literature would be Brideshead Revisited, The story of a merchant-class man who is extremely posh by most people’s standards – public school, Oxford, antique collector father – but finds himself in the presence of titled mansion-dwellers where he’s a sort of novelty commoner.
