I was/am evangelical for this show. Favorite line was “Sorry. I’m used to feeding cats.” Also, was following Ben Aaronovitch when this debuted and he said that it was inspiring him to up his literary cursing game.

Finding a literary agent feels like the hardest mission in this journey.
Every email sent seems to vanish into a black hole, followed by an endless silence.
But I know they have to read through entire galaxies of words every week.
So I’ll keep trying, until one day, a signal finally comes back.

bond died in casino royale (1967) and no one complained. for a million dollars, i'll reveal that you can write endless stories that take place before his death. in fact, many stories have been written about people who have not yet died. it's a common literary device.

Literary culture is dying and it’s not just screens or lack of investment in literature as a key part of culture — it’s that so many people are functionally illiterate. Publishers should be concerned about this!

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

Fortunately no one has ever written about luring someone into the basement for a bottle of booze. My Millennial Revenge Story “Hey Man I’ve Got Original Four Loko Downstairs You Want Some?” will be a literary masterpiece

There are two types of fantasy enjoyers, snobs and perverts. A snob insists that fantasy fiction can only be of real literary and human value if the fantastic elements can be reduced entirely to metaphor and the story still hangs together if you can remove them entirely. Snobs want to feel superior.

This is not some impressive literary observation but the Animorphs series, the fact that these kids just kept getting beat over and over again but kept trying for minor victories let down by authority figures again and again made a big impact on me

I rarely read literary fiction, but 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro is one of the great works of art of our age, a book so powerful I had a physical reaction to it
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!
tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Question for my literary friends here: after consecutive, unexplainable collapses by the NY Giants, is their management's replacement of the head coach with a man named Kafka satire or foreshadowing?

Contemporary Romance Review: Jodi McAlister’s AN ACADEMIC AFFAIR (Literary Lovers #1)
As someone who endured a soul-destroying grad school experience and its subsequent cut-throat world of snagging work in your field, one that sees more of annihilation than growth, I've read too many romances with "professor" heroines whose authors know diddly-squat about academia. I am, therefore, leery to read one. But McAlister is an English prof and I hoped finally someone would get it right?
