Catenary is the superior technology for the Surfliner. Time to electrify the Coaster and #LeaveRoomForCatenary in the Del Mar tunnel!

And with wires planned between LA and Anaheim, we should do the rest of the Surfliner, from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Electrifying Anaheim-San Diego will accelerate high speed rail into San Diego, currently not planned for decades - but we need wires in the tunnels! #LeaveRoomForCatenary

One cause for concern: on the map from the State Rail Plan, the Surfliner/Coaster south of Anaheim is NOT shown as electrified, despite CalSTA's involvement. Let's make sure we change that - LOSSAN tunnels must #LeaveRoomForCatenary!

SANDAG is meeting to discuss Del Mar Tunnel alignments this Friday. SANDAG needs to #LeaveRoomForCatenary in the tunnels - big investments like this should
come with the big increases in speed and frequency only electrification provides.
America's second-busiest passenger rail line runs on a single track along crumbling Del Mar bluffs.

When these cliffs erode and trains slow down, it cuts off San Diego's only rail connection to the rest of the nation.
