It’s just depressing. But as much as I had hoped for them to succeed, Starmer seems stuck in the analogue world and simply not up for the job in the digital age. Apart from not having a clear vision of what he wants on a broader level.

This line in the article is pretty obvious of what he wanted to communicate. I get nexus doesn't have the best standing but this reads to me someone who's merely pointing out gen AI is getting commonplace and actual, talented human work is the only way to rise from the slop.

Faculty are VERY welcome to adjust their INCREASINGLY high expectations/demands of early career scholars looking for entry-level jobs when it comes to publications. There are nowadays postdoc positions that only hire people with 3-5 publications. This is not sustainable.
The race to churn out papers is a systemic problem.
Early career scholars are desperate to get more papers to compete in the academic job market. This can make it hard for faculty mentors hard to reduce their output unless they shrink their lab (which removes opportunities from next generation).
