I could use some help with identification. At first I had thought this was just a piece of a broken grass seed stem, but now I'm thinking it's an insect. Google lens has not been very helpful with this.

I have no idea what this is... What kind of creature is hiding in that pupa? Did it construct that igloo made out of wood bits(?) itself? No matter how hard I search, I haven't been able to figure a thing out, and it drives me a bit mad sometimes.

On the surface of an old log, there is an amber-colored pupa inside a shelter made out of little grains of wood. It is a peculiar sight. The same pupa within the wood bit shelter as shown in the previous image, but we view it from far above instead of close up in this photo.

Ok hive mind, any ideas of what this is? This little inchworm was on my sweatshirt. It used silk to drop when I tried to remove it. I was about 8ft from my vegetable and flower garden.

Seeking insight on this fly which resembles somewhat a wasp mimic or snipe fly, but I'm reading that the eastern us has only 2 species of snipe fly and none of the Hymenoptera mimics are looking right?? #diptera #insects #insectidentification I'm not an expert and stumped 😭
