I want all four of these to have distinct names and I'm not sure I've ever seen that done before. Is there a convention for this I'm not aware of? Does anybody have a way they personally do it that they like? #ITeachPhysics #AstroEdu

1: Toward the central body
2: Perpendicular to that
3: Toward the local center of curvature
4: Perpendicular to that

I feel like people call both 1 and 3 centripetal/radial, but obviously they're different. One can cause speed changes and the other can't! #ITeachPhysics #AstroEdu

After a good #ITeachPhysics conversation a few weeks ago about "radial" and "centripetal" I have a new question... I'm doing orbits for the next few days.

When you are dealing with elliptical orbits (NOT circular) what names do you use for the following directions...

A group asked how many trials they should do, four or five, so I said... (even with the hand movements, good for a laugh).

Wave on a String is now available in #PhETStudio. You can set up your preset, save its configuration, and send it as a unique link. It’s that easy.

Repost with update: Milo’s Solar System
Soon it is time for my AP physics class to move into gravitation. This is the one topic on the AP Physics 1 or C exams that doesn’t lend itself to tabletop experimentation. So we have to reso…

Can’t do yard work without trying to teach my kids some physics Good warmup question during a fluids unit is why does the ball get closer when it’s directly over the leaf blower vs at an angle? #iteachphysics #bernoullisprinciple

#iteachphysics. Just got home from the Louisiana Space Grant annual meeting. The loss of OSTEM will hurt us so much. The incredible interdisciplinary research and experience presented at this tiny conference was absolutely incredible. We had 135 attendees and 56 student poster presentations.

Day 51 Physical Sci - Sub day. Students had all their bridge materials cut, glue, and ready so had them in group bins ready for assembly and testing. Guided lab packet to make the process easier, Hope it went well! Will whiteboard FBDs for each block on Monday #iteachphysics #teach180

Day 51 Physics - Sub Day! October has no breaks so feels good to have a break. Students will be taking their data from yesterdays lab and creating a Friction one-pager

Day 50 Physics - Came up with a lab idea w/o testing it. Wanted to get students to saw and sand wood so set up a sand grit vs μ lab. Had Ss launch wood through photogate and measured distance then derive μ. Had them sand with different grits and repeat. Reflection in thread #iteachphysics #teach180

Day 50 Physical Sci - Wanted to connect newtons laws to some engineering concepts so used this TPT template for a stone bridge. Basically took the whole period to introduce bridge types, make predictions, then cutting and assembling. Didn’t have time to test yet #iteachphysics #teach180
