As cephalopods, longfin inshore squid have three hearts: two to pump blood through the gills & a third to circulate oxygenated blood around the body. @gertjanveenstra.bsky.social shows how each heart forms from a shared embryonic origin, in close concert with the gills.

Zebrafish regenerate their hearts without scarring but, like humans, medaka fish cannot - unless their immune system is activated by simulating a viral infection. Ben Shih-Lei Lai 賴時磊 highlights that immune cell-dependent clearing of damage promotes heart regeneration.
