The 2025 Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races show that Democrats can win over MAGA voters. Granted, these are not dramatic slices of Don The Con’s coalition, but they are enough in these hyperpolarized times to win elections.

If what happens is that whenever we touch an issue, it necessarily becomes toxic because we touched it and a large minority of the population is hyperpolarized against Dems, that basically argues for a dictatorship imo. That's not a salvageable electorate.

very true but i think it's an open question in a hyperpolarized environment how large campaign effects are going to be

The CIDER approach offers broad potential for hyperpolarized magnetic resonance and beyond, as it can preserve the valuable polarization of various tracers.

This research paper presents a novel approach called "Chemically Induced Deceleration of nuclear spin Relaxation" (CIDER), which can substantially reduce the longitudinal and transverse relaxation rates of hyperpolarized tracers in aqueous solutions.

Also I think hyperpolarized mri can measure lactate too. Will look into it!

Interesting, thanks! Hyperpolarized MRI is something with a lot of development here in aarhus, and while not an expert my understanding is it give extremely high SnR readout of brain metabolic pathways. Interesting though about the glucose not being the fuel - any leads on what might be?

8/n So we took it further — we hyperpolarized AII amacrines optogenetically.
When we did, the surround responses in OFF ganglion cells dropped significantly.

5/n. Intriguingly, we previously reported a similar difference in cell state earlier between non-aggressive (hyperpolarized PMvDAT) and aggressive (hyperexcitable PMvDAT ) males, respectively.

4/n. Recordings from PMvDAT neurons ex vivo revealed that in virgin females they are typically hyperpolarized and fire action potentials rarely, if at all. In contrast, the same cells in dams were highly active and in a hyperexcited state.
