Cool, I've never seen one of these before, I believe it is a Hornet Mimic Hoverfly. And trust me, when I first saw it I was initially pretty damn grateful that I don't keep bees lol. That look must one hell of a self defence mechanism, it does make you pause and think.

Thanks. I've no idea on hoverflys. All I know is they are fake bees and wasps. 😆

Interesting image. We don’t have the Common Globetail here in North America. I had to look it up. We do have a smaller version of hoverflys that look and behave like bee’s rather than a dragonfly. That’s cool. I learned something from checking out your photos.

A sonic the hedgehog au where sonic is a bee and metal sonic is a hoverfly (both are blue because blue bees and hoverflys exist)

I remember discovering about hoverflys and they’re really cute in their own way

⭐️ Gorgeous coloured poppy that I grew from seed this summer. These flowers were loved by many insects, especially Hoverflys, not in the photo! ⭐️

Spotted this beauty at the park this morning! It's a hornet mimic hoverfly (Volucella Zonaria). The park was full of them on these particular flowers, as well as smaller hoverflys.

Small White and Red Admiral NFY, can’t tell you how many times I’ve been caught out today, by Hoverflys, whilst looking for distant Raptors. 🙄
Time to go in and persuade Mrs. Prof to go to Sainsbury’s for ‘essential’ Beer 🍺
