Although I suppose on the plus side using a blue multimode fiber here makes it very easy to tell which drop goes to the living room (yellow single-mode) and which one goes to office (blue multimode).

The fiber to run to the office arrived the day after I left town, my gf brought it in while checking on my cat. Today I rand the cable and it looks nice in conduit... until the hallway and office area. Might need to re-think this run in the future...

This is just inside of said doorway. It's difficult to see the blue cable, but it goes under the top of the doorframe to a hook installed in the ceiling off camera. From there, the cable hangs loosely as it goes across two additional hooks then drops down behind the computer desk.

Almost quote-posted the original "setup completed" post to say exactly this again. The "bigger number is better" part of my brain wants to spend a bit more to make it happen, but I keep reminding myself that no, there will be next to no practical benefit.

What's bad is part of me wants to buy a simple unmanaged switch for the living room and upgrade this setup to a 10G link as it's decently cheap... but since most stuff in the living room is just connecting to the internet there's no benefit in a link 10x my internet speed.

It's done! I now have a single-mode double fiber running from the living room to downstairs! I replaced the unmanaged 8-port switch in the living room with an 8-port/2 SFP switch. Only 1G link for now, but if I replace the living room switch and both SFPs then I can do 10G over the same fiber.

Okay, NOW the project is done! Half-round conduit with adhesive backing is in place near the top of the basement walls and around the stairs, this looks so clean now!

Before they do, the conduit ends and there is a barely-visible yellow cable containing two fibers sticking out and running up to some railing around the stairwell upstairs. A much closer picture of the yellow cable exiting the conduit, hanging with a little bit of slack, and entering a protective cover as it runs across the living room floor.

And by "It's done" this time I mean it's functional. Some time this evening I plan on getting something to run the fiber along the wall, then I have the annoying "re-coil the old Cat5e and coax cables from past experiments" step to complete.

Upstairs everything looks so clean! There is a rubber cable cover on the floor protecting the cable, and it runs from the staircase to behind a bookcase that's adjacent to the TV stand. Looking down the stairs, the fiber is hanging out loosely on one side. This is not perfect, but it's better than the Cat5e and Coax cables doing the same, which I had previously done. Down at the bottom of the stairs... eesh. There is a yellow fiber cable with a lot of extra slack winding around on the floor. This is *functional*, but it's a bit of a tripping hazard. I think if I run the fiber high enough on the wall it should go over the door frame to the laundry room without a problem. Also pictured: The 7ft rack I purchased a few months ago (...and found is too tall for the basement), some old PCs, and the messy extra cat5e and coax cables. This is a picture of the back of the rack. The thin yellow line about halfway up is the fiber cable, if I run it along the top of the wall then I'd have it drop down around here.
