HLS are calling the ICE operation here “Charlotte’s Web.”

It’s like they sit around discussing way to be peak levels of evil.

uh if your firefox fails to play hls video it's probably because you're missing ffmpeg 4.4

Back in the day, a student at HLS who was renting from a professor kept telling me of how he was hitting on her and promising reduced or forgiven rent if she relented...

As the orange turd was recorded saying: if you are famous, you can do anything you want. or hit on anyone you desire...

Portugal: "We will contribute €1 million to the Adaptation Fund by the end of this year (2025) and also contribute a further €200,000 for additional UNFCCC activities." #COP30 #HLS

I’ve been enjoying @jrdarchivist.bsky.social’s “Keep Your Ear to the Ground,” a book that’s helped illuminate the world I stumbled into when I moved from SW Va. to DC. A fan of John’s zine, Held Like Sound, I somehow talked him into letting me contribute to HLS back in the day. #BookSky

This is how on-campus interviews worked at HLS in 2009. Pretty sure they were still doing this as late as mid 2010s. (And, maybe, still today?)
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

The waste is just staggering. Old contractors have flown one test flight with SLS+Orion and it has cost $35B.

Falcon9 cost only $400M. Crew Dragon $3B. And HLS contract is $4B.

- About three hours on Control since Tuesday (mostly this morning)

Rough week for words. Really struggled getting into this draft. Was way too much in my head -- lots of resistance and doubt ...

Good catch thank you, I will take a look :)

From what I understand FLAC & ALAC are supported in HLS, certainly a niche need (tv backhaul in my case).

It is in the screenshot yes, with a clear label "Potential Award Amount". Are you being ignorant on purpose? The "Outlayed Amount" is what's been paid so far.

No, Im telling you they already successfully completed milestones valued in the contract for $2.7 billion. They have completed milestones

[Now that we have an official look at what the interior of HLS will look like it would be really cool if someone adapted it into a VRchat world]

As I understand it, the former head of HLS, who didn't think we were in a constitutional crisis, didn't have any problems with Vermuele's love of Schmitt and state of exception fanfic.

That amount isn’t too much though. Most of the remaining work isn’t covered by the contract

Pretty much only the refuelling demo and two HLS demo flights remain.

He’s irrefutable proof of HLS affirmative action hiring, like on one side you got Liz Warren teaching bankruptcy and Randall Kennedy teaching Contracts, and then on the other side whatever this is

i forget which encoding speed preset i used for the video encoders but it could always be something slower that makes better use of the bits. also the HLS streams are all CBR so it can't do any kind of VBR stuff to use bits where they're more important for retaining visual fidelity

Starship HLS ain't ever gonna happen 💀

Professor Tribe out of HLS is excellent. Gunther’s Con Law is what I used in Law School and turn to it from time to time. The Fred Friendly book is what I model my class after when I teach. You will also need a separate Crim Pro textbook for 4th, 5th and 6th concepts and law. “Police” procedures.

I've read some pretty strong criticisms of the Starship architecture too, and it's not like their HLS is really poised to attempt a landing very soon, as far as I know. Does anybody really have hardware that can enable human lunar flights in the next few years?
