Highly pathogenic H5N9: Studying a new viral subtype
How did H5N9 influenza infect a commercial duck farm in California, and what is the likelihood we will see more of this viral subtype? Here is what we know so far.

If a lab created H5N9, we’d call it bioterrorism. When factory farms do it, it’s called “business as usual.”

A Second Type of Bird Flu is Circulating in U.S. Ducks—What to Know
Nearly 119,000 birds have been culled at a farm in California after a bird flu called H5N9 was detected among the poultry

H5N9 hit a US duck farm, wiping out 119,000 birds. Non-vegans aren’t bystanders; they’re funding the next pandemic. Want to stop this? Support justice, not disease.

Absolutely. Farming is going to be crushed unless there's a deficit-ramping bailout.

It's truly & entirely possible there will be zero non-megacorp farms (or dairy/poultry, with how H5N1/H5N9 seems likely to play out) of any notable size remaining a couple of years from now.

How H5N9 is different from H5N1
H5N9 virus is the result of a combination of H5N1, H7N9, and H9N2. It isn't clear how adept the virus is at infecting people.
Osterholm: “We’ve never seen a global spread of avian influenza virus like this.”

In the meantime, Bird flu crisis enters new phase
A new strain of avian flu called H5N9 was recently identified on a duck farm in California, a sign that two or more viruses could be infecting the same animal and swapping genetic material.

Bird flu crisis enters new phase
While the developments may not raise the risk of a pandemic, they could create more havoc for farmers, worsen egg shortages and expose surveillance gaps.

Maybe but the post is missing the science so I see it as inflammatory at best currently. H5N1 itself is not a threat to humans. Another variant is potentially more harmful (H5N9).

There's also H5N9, Tuberculosis, and Measles... Cause antivaxxers are evil, actually.

The sum of it all is that airborne risk is at its highest in decades.

It isn't a big ask to just put a fucking mask on. But no, disabled folk don't matter enough for the inconvenience of wearing a mask, do we?
March 10, 2025 at 2:35 AM
Nope. That's why HPAI's have been seen in Europe, Asia, Australia, the Americas etc. for decades. HPAI H5N1 seen at least as early as 1959 in Scotland.

“I have nightmares about the fact that we won’t know that an H5N1 pandemic has started until we see that a hospital system has filled up with patients,” virologist Angela Rasmussen said. “It’s going to be worse, I think”

The AI trading bot ran for 18 hours, catching some insane gains:

For that time,it caught: $CSI300: 35x,$FartFrog: 22x, $JanusPro7B:15x,$H5N9:12x

When not trading, it was building a database and learning from past trades to minimize mistakes. Real-time AI optimization in action

It's just one drop of many in the storm, but FUCK it's such a tragedy we don't have a competent admin right now b/c H5N1/H5N9 is the perfect basis for facility & best practices improvements in factory farming.

Would be better for workers, the public, & export quality reputation.

Tinha.

Até, olha só, 2017.

Pretend like it is 2020 all over again. Mask in public, wash your hands like you have OCD, maintain proper distance from others. Norovirus, RSV, Flu A (and potentially H5N9 bird flu) are all circulating. Plus, there are pockets of measles and TB.

Musk fired the bird flu experts and can’t find them
