Lulu is so bad at UI - sellers can’t see how many copies each product has sold (have to download CSV & work it out), sales data is delayed (by maybe an hour or two?), there’s no dashboard overview, no graphs, etc etc

Large percentages of Americans are functionally illiterate and innumerate, and can’t read graphs correctly, according to recent research. Few seem to have any understanding of statistical methods either.

I’ve never heard of this system, but frankly the initial idea sounds like undiagnosed dyslexia.

Bumped into a friend who is helping out an application for an anthology of Indian writing, I was like 'do you want some helpful stats', 'Sure!' they said. I bet they regret it.

ndians overtook the Chinese in the 2023 Census to become officially the largest single Aotearoa Asian ethnic group*, at 7% of the population. Chinese were 6%, and Asians overall were 19% of the population. Migration data shows that immigration from India has far outstripped immigration from China over the last 15 years in work and residency pathways, and has reached parity in stably-resident international student numbers (MBIE Migration Data Explorer, 2025). Based on these higher recent levels of immigration, Indians are expected to reach 12% of Aotearoa's population by 2043 according to StatsNZ median projections released September 2025, while the Chinese are only projected to increase to 8% of the population. In this time, the Asian population is expected to diversify substantially and increase to a third of the national population (similar to the current Asian share of Auckland), with the Chinese projected to decline from 30% to 25% of the overall Asian population by 2043, but Indians expected to increase from 35% to 36% of the Asian group. Other South Asian ethnic groups were an additional 5% of the Asian population in 2023, meaning South Asians overall are currently 40% of all Asians in Aotearoa. Indians and other South Asians will increasingly be the face of the Asian New Zealand communities, with all the internal cultural and linguistic diversity, political grudges, intra-ethnic conflict, and controversies over foreign government influence that the Chinese have been banging on about all this time, good luck to youse guys I say.

In case it's useful, also attached is the detailed 2023 breakdown of the Asian ethnic group by South, East and Southeast Asian ethnic groups in case the anthology will be broadly South Asian rather than just 'Indian'. In the 2023 Census there were additionally about 52,000 non 'Indian' South Asians, primarily from (in size order) Sri Lankan Singhalese and Tamils, Afghanistan ethnic groups (technically Central Asian but I feel it's right to include here), Pakistanis, Nepali, and Bangladeshis. This comprised an additional 5% of the Asian population (i.e. 40% of the Asian population is South or South-Central Asian).

As people often ask, those who specified 'Fijian Indian' or any other kind of Indian, such as 'Malaysian Indian' or 'South African Indian' will have been backcoded into 'Indian' in the Census (you can see them in the detailed Level 4 ethnic table attached), the same fate will have met Sikh separatists, and those who wrote in 'Bengali' as opposed to 'Bangladeshi' even if they are also Bangladeshi, much to their likely chagrin if they ever found out about this. Obviously, there are a lot of politics around who gets into a South Asian anthology, and honestly very little of it will make sense if you draw a hard line around it. As an ethnicity-counting expert (it is literally my PhD lololol) it behooves me to note that 'Indian' is not a real ethnic group, neither is 'Pakistani' or 'Bangladeshi' or 'Sri Lankan' and things start to make less and less sense the deeper you go into the diaspora, past the Partition lines, indenture routes, the Mughals, the Ghorids, the Mamluks, etc etc etc it doesn't really ever end tbh.
