#Egyptian ear studs for #GlassObjectThursday. Made from coils of green, black, blue, yellow and white glass and shaped to resemble a papyrus column with widely flaring umbel. May have been used as a pendant. c.1550 BC - 1069 BC.

#GlassObjectThursday a cobalt blue blow glass amphora. A cylindrical neck with the rim folded outwards and upwards with two reed handles and an elongated ovid body with a tubular base-ring.

This odd little object was thrown in for free with a bargain vintage Italian vase at a house clearance shop, I doubt whether they knew what they’d got…

BM's Portland Vase c. 15BC-AD25: one of world's top #Roman cameo glass pieces.
Interpretations both mythological and historical are legion. Maybe marriage of Peleus and sea goddess Thetis??
Visitor deliberately smashed it into >125 bits in 1845: BM restoration lasted 100 yrs.
