Help me turn the State Library Victoria's digitised maps into data!

As part of my residency at the SLV LAB, I've been experimenting with using Allmaps and @IIIF to georeference the Library's maps. Georeferencing relates a digitised map to real world […]

Help me turn the State Library of Victoria's digitised maps into data! https://wragge.github.io/slv-allmaps/ (bit of a soft launch, so let me know if you see any errors in the documentation...)

Once the documentation is done I'm going to ask folks to help me georeference as many SLV maps as possible before the end of my #slvresidency in December. In particular I'd like to get some of the MMBW maps done and in a spatial index. More soon!

Why Qgis won't georeference this dumb old map ugh

Feeling a bit pleased with this latest prototype for my #slvresidency – it's a userscript that adds links to georeference digitised maps in the SLV collection using AllMaps. If an item has already been georeferenced it embed the AllMaps viewer to show the […]

I can use GeoIndex to view this data so why serve it as a layer in QGIS, I'm far from being able to use GIS analysis tools, even as layers set to same georeference and zooming to any level I'm finding it useful to use with other layers such as OS historic map, a better base layer for my use.

Just georeference the data!

Has anyone ever attempted to georeference the maps from Tan Qixiang's 譚其驤 Zhongguo lishi ditu ji 中國歷史地圖集?

I've been playing with AllMaps to georeference SLV maps that are available via @IIIF. Here's a set of maps of the Melbourne CBD created for fire insurance in the 1920s. https://viewer.allmaps.org/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fannotations.allmaps.org%2Fmanifests%2F628c216109f482f1 Hold down 'b' to remove […]

We have improved our links with the Allmaps project, so that any of our maps can be freely, collaboratively georeferenced and then brought back into our Georeferenced Maps viewer 🗺️

Awesome suggestions, I'll share them -- or, please join the #georeference-tool channel in the OSMUS Slack if you're able! Jacob is the driving force, I'm just the hype man (though I'm pretty hyped!)!

You can help georeference some of the Sanborn maps. Interesting way to tour through old Richmond (and see the changing streets/names).

What a fantastic first week of our Georeference Tool! We already have over 500 image georeferences across Richmond, and we're working on importing new datasets!

Our map viewer now allows you to sort by date, and overlay Sanborn insurance maps from the 1900s.

If you are in the New Orleans area, come to one of our upcoming Georeference-a-thons at Second Line Brewing! Tuesday evenings, the 16th and 23rd. RSVP form here: tiny.cc/georef-2025. We'll be focusing on 1895 Duncan Plaza area and hearing from archaeologists who did work there over the summer.

Bumblebee colonies are annual, so all but the queens die at the end of summer. I killed five workers throughout Idaho to georeference their distribution as well as the pollinator plant they were visiting. A museum specimen is infinitely more valuable for conservation than a dead bee in the woods.

Hi Dominic! We aren't planning to georeference these maps ourselves in the near future.

However, we've just added a new georeference tool to the website which allows users to georeference any of our online maps.

Classic labels usually offered only vague information about where something was collected. But GIS changed everything! 💻

Now we can:
📌 Record precise locations with GPS technology 🛰️.
📌 Retro georeference older records using online tools.

It opens up a whole new dimension!
