goddamn. i loved going to work when i worked at goddard. everyone there was wonderful.
folks should know that GSFC is basically setup like a military base and should interpret any take over on those terms

Reposting to correct an error: trump admin is quietly gutting 13 buildings and about 100 laboratories at Goddard campus that has been instrumental to Hubble and James Webb telescope missions. Staff say they’ve be locked and told to move equipment. Anything left behind will be thrown away.
NASA may be quietly gutting an iconic campus with what it calls strategic closures, workers fear
(CNN) — Alarm is growing among federal workers at NASA’s iconic Goddard Space Flight Center’s main campus in Greenbelt, Maryland — the nerve center for groundbreaking missions like the Hubble

Goddard leadership denies any impact on missions (without giving details), but it's concerning multiple stories now w GSFC employees saying equipment abandonment, lab shutdowns, etc will imperil upcoming missions (Roman, Dragonfly) or even threatening continued Webb and Hubble operations

A few things to be aware of today (besides election results):
1) CNN is far from my favorite news source, but not many outlets are talking about this yet. Contacts at #gsfc have confirmed that this is very much a source of concern right now. www.cnn.com/2025/11/04/s...

Buildings at Goddard’s Maryland campus are being emptied and padlocked, sources say. NASA leadership has pushed back against the concerns.

What the US government is doing to Goddard Space Flight Center is devastating. GSFC is the largest science center at NASAs disposal. It is home of Hubble operations, I was lucky enough to see JWST, Osiris-Rex &Roman built there. This destruction will gut US &global space science for decades to come
Goddard spacecraft engineer: "I think it just kind of speaks to the atmosphere of the agency and the nation, where people are like, 'Well, laws don't matter for the people at the top anymore.'"
NASA is sinking its flagship science center during the government shutdown — and may be breaking the law in the process, critics say
"There is just a general acknowledgement that a lot of what is happening is illegal…"

3) Apparently the mock up of RELAY 1 in Bldg 11 at #GSFC is going to be excessed? Some concern that it may not have gone through the proper process, since personnel are furloughed atm. NASA will see if anyone wants it🤞 ( #museums ). If not, they throw it away.

Per @nasawatch.bsky.social in the other place, this was dumped in a corridor at GSFC with the sort of note you see on a used car! There's even a phone number.
It is a full scale model of Relay-1 , an early US telecom satellite that broadcast news of the Kennedy assassination into Europe!

Finally read the @space.com article about NASA Goddard. It's a well-sourced and thorough accounting of what I've anecdotally heard from people at GSFC. Basically, the reason GSFC is targeted is they're in a blue district and do nerd science stuff rather than astronaut stuff.
