This is so true. Co-creating the story is a balance for the GM. You have to allow space for improv and reacting to (and rewarding) creative thinking on the players side.

This include novel ways the players might try to talk their way out of something. Up the consequences later.

Really good thread. Encounters very rarely go the way you see them in your head. Be willing to just go with it if your players come up with something you didn't think of, even if it means your boss gets curb stomped. throw a bunch of minions at them
#TTRPG #OSR DMs, dont marry your monsters. Its a seductive trap. Youve been imagining the encounter all week, how epic it is going to be. And it is utterly natural to want the encounter to go the way you imagine. The clever special abilities and tactics your precious has in store for those meddling

Doing boring computer-file-cleaning-out - rediscovered a whole campaign that I poured my heart into and... it never got played. Timing wasn't good for my group at the time, and tried to pull together a new group (always risky.)

It never worked out.
