Hi! Just wanted to follow up and see how you're doing. I'm sorry, I don't think I recommended a platform...have you thought about GDevelop? It's along the lines of GameMaker (has a no-code/low-code option, good for 2D/pixel art). Have you been able to get back on your project?

One Rotten Oath demo v1.2.0 released!

Since the demo is here to stay, I've added a few things that are present in the full game like hitmarkers and rifle piercing bullets. More on that here:

and with an ai focused fork of godot, you can actually offload a lot of more complicated tasks to ai. don't know how to change a thing? ask the ai to do it, or at least how to do it

that's what gdevelop does now with their pivot to ai actually, so it's been done before too
November 10, 2025 at 7:15 PM
funny you mention gdevelop because it advertises itself as an ai game engine these days, and does have an ai agent built into it. kinda like what i described for godot, but nobody uses it so idk if it's actually good or dogshit as expected

i've been blasting AI generated entries in the newgrounds portal and they're mostly nextjs apps and shit like that, like, react has a lot of corpus in those models, nothing in gdevelop or godot or anything

The key idea that drives me forward is that learning this stuff as hard as I can will make it easier to do in the long run. Same with GDevelop. These things seem hard and impossible at first, but I gotta try. I can worry about the art assets later, which is my first big hurdle strangely enough.
November 9, 2025 at 7:20 PM
I still have all of my notes I wrote down while learning GDevelop. I'm not going to abandon that engine. I'll still make games with it. It's just a matter of when I'll start. I decided that if I'm struggling with my big project, I can focus on a smaller thing for a day or two and then try again.
November 9, 2025 at 6:49 PM
I still had that idea to make a game like Snake, but the snake wants to get fatter, so it introduces length AND width into the usual formula of a classic old game such as Snake. Still not sure how to get that work in GDevelop, but right now GDevelop is where I am most confident right now.
November 9, 2025 at 6:49 PM
When it comes to smaller game projects I still want to do, I had a cute and hot idea that evolved from a prior idea, a feedee kobold knight who is bottom heavy and gets huge. She wields a crossbow. This can easily fit over a GDevelop template for a wave based Survivors style roguelite ~
November 9, 2025 at 6:49 PM
I am not willing to do any coding. The most I was willing to do was the "no code" coding of GDevelop. I learned a lot from it, but it ended up being too hard to do RPGs and Party Based RPGs for.

In GDevelop, coding is done via an events based system and organized under an "if" and "then" column, the if column has conditions, and the then column has actions. Despite feeling confident with it now, I still don't know how to do party based RPGs or anything remotely like what I want in GDevelop.
November 7, 2025 at 1:17 PM
From the 4 or so weeks of watching GDevelop tutorials and such, I understand how THAT program does "code", and it's really still coding. So sadly it was rude of you to assume that I am put off by coding. I mean REGULAR coding where it makes no sense and doesn't organize itself for you.
November 7, 2025 at 1:17 PM
TTRPG? What do you mean? I want to make RPGs and JRPG types of games. You also don't need to know code to make games in GDevelop or Gamemaker, or RPG Maker and RPG Architect. They have visual/block/event based coding. Yes, it's still "coding". But I learned about if/then principles from GDevelop.
November 7, 2025 at 1:15 PM
I really don't want to have to relearn Gamemaker when I just spend nearly a month learning GDevelop... it's why I'm so distraught emotionally and mentally. I wasted time. It's also still too hard to make RPGs and party based RPGs in Gamemaker.
November 7, 2025 at 8:28 AM
Also, it would be just as difficult if not more to make a party based RPG in Gamemaker, especially one FROM SCRATCH in Godot. Really not going to use any of that right now. At least Gdevelop was easy and didn't require knowing how to code.
November 7, 2025 at 6:11 AM
Right now, GDevelop was at least more fun and much easier to learn than Godot ever will be. That was all I was willing to learn because I don't want to code.
