The baudoinia fungus makes Rick's house look like it's already been burnt. You don't really want to be here for that burn. Lexington, KY USA.
This photo is of the main entrance to one of a bonded rack houses, a.k.a. a “rickhouse” near Lexington, KY USA. ‘No Smoking’ and ‘Fire Extinguisher’ signage stands out in red, white, and orange against the gray structure covered with sooty baudoinia fungus that feeds on the alcohol filling the air everywhere around the distillery (common to every distillery). The steel door is painted in a red oxide. Decades of grey paint peel away in heavy layers from the underside of the awning. It's so dominant that it seems that the building has recently been in flames. But, as flammable as an oil refinery, it would never have survived. The fungus grabs onto every available surface and makes itself at home. The blackened characteristic is like a beacon that allows ATF “revenuers” to pinpoint the location of illegal stills. © David B. Stewart
