#FoundationDB
There's some really cool things you can do with bucket forking, it's kinda difficult for me to describe how cool this is after having dug deep into the code behind it. I wish I had the time to learn FoundationDB properly!

Hint: they implement it by sorting time backwards so that FoundationDB adjacency lookups turn arbitrary timestamp lookups into O(1) operations on the database backend.

New blogpost alert: jazco.dev/2025/09/26/i...

This one is about using load balancing and bucketing in more creative ways to solve problems with database contention.

Part of the work we're doing building out a new DB layer on top of FoundationDB that will be FOSS!

Hope you enjoy it!

as a huge foundationdb fanboy this is very exciting !
New largescale database built on foundation db for building appserver backends. Going to have specific facilities for common needs in the atmosphere. That PR is merging some very slick work by @jaz.bsky.social for efficient graph calculations

"kvdb" is just a working name. taking suggestions

a WIP DB layer on top of FoundationDB that will horizontally scale and have an easy to use interface for developers (hopefully)

starting out trying RESP3 so it's compatible with redis clients

still VERY WIP and expect it to change a ton in a short timeframe

Alternatives to `pgactive` include MySQL Group Replication, Galera, and distributed databases like CockroachDB and FoundationDB. These solutions navigate the CAP theorem differently, emphasizing inherent trade-offs in distributed systems. #DistributedDB 4/6

@ armin @ stalwartlabs it runs on FreeBSD - FoundationDB isn't currently building on FreeBSD and RockDB is showing corruption (and segafault) when growing to some gigabytes, but it seems to be working fine with sqlite, mysql and postgresql. I'm testing it.

To overcome etcd's limitations, alternatives are being explored. Solutions like FoundationDB, kine (using MySQL/Postgres/SQLite), or even mem_etcd are potential replacements to improve K8s scalability for huge deployments. #CloudNative 3/7

Yeah this would be a super super cool FoundationDB use to see! And logical too; etcd doesn't feel completely distant in nature.
