#FlexibilityParadox
A great article in @wesjnl.bsky.social by @emmabanister.bsky.social et al. on how digitalisation of work has reshaped or maintained the #idealworker norm maniesfesting differently for men and women -using #FlexibilityParadox as one of their theoretical framework! journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

It was a pleasure to present at this year's ADAPT conference on the theme of what do workers want. I've given a plenary talk on my book #FlexibilityParadox. Didn't realise my face wasn't shown while I was talking. 🤪

Grateful for @manyeekan.bsky.social and @sociologyoxford.bsky.social for hosting me yesterday to speak about my book the #FlexibilityParadox. We had a greart discussion with ideas around redefining "the worker", "work" and the future of society and work.

It was a great pleasure to give the plenary speech for this event. Great to see many trade unions working to provide workers with better access to, and better use of flexible/remote working arrangements so that it does not lead to further exploitation as I've noted in my book #FlexibilityParadox.
Over 50 trade union leaders, experts, and representatives from nearly 20 countries convened in Antwerp to address the challenges of organising and bargaining collectively in an era increasingly dominated by remote work.

They collected their findings in a report, available for download now.

The #flexibilityparadox theory argues that flexible working can lead to workers working harder/longer, in both paid/unpaid work, exacerbating perceived work-family/privatelife conflict. However this paper shows how countries with generous family policies this isn’t necessarily the case! 2/🧵

So pleased to see this paper out @familyresearch.bsky.social exploring #familypolicy moderating the association between #flexibleworking & #worklifebalance #workfamilyconflict. It evidences how #flexibilityparadox & other negative unintended outcomes of flex work are due to policy/norm context 1/🧵

Both serve to exploit female labour better, and enables the persistence of gender inequality both at home and in the labour market. I speak about these issues in great length in my book the #FlexibilityParadox available: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1447...
