At #Fermilab, a surefire solution to “What do I do with all this food?” Is bringing it to the Main Control Room.
Not only is there a crew shepherding accelerators 24/7, but the MCR is a crossroads visited by all kinds of workers during their day. Food will reliably disappear.
Especially doughnuts.

Castin you motherfucker maybe deal with Fermilab security dragging scientists from their homes before you start talking about tents that can accommodate Bull Connor

…Reagan got democrats to vote for him because “morning in America” sounded like a place they wanted to be. John Lewis inspires us all because his Beloved Community was big enough to accommodate Bull Connor. Hate is easy, but if you commit to it, love has the numbers…

Yet I had an even better reason to buy SEETEE SHOCK. A personal one.
(Pardon me if I bring this up too frequently.)
#Fermilab built an antimatter factory. I helped, some.
One day in 1988, Jack Williamson, who'd written about #antimatter in the 1940s, came to visit.
I showed him around.

My journey into finding Chicagoland’s most unusual houses now turns to the suburb of Warrenville, where I recently came across this home from 1971. Now officially 50 yrs old. I’d like to think this was built for someone who worked at nearby Fermilab.

I grew up down the road from Fermilab, this is so damn cool!

When beam was to circulate in the LHC, it was daytime at CERN, but the middle of the night here in Illinois. So #Fermilab threw a pajama party.
Once beam was established, breakfast was served to the assembled revelers.

The flags go up every morning at @Fermilab. One of my favorite things about FNAL (besides everything) is the flags, proudly displayed both inside and outside Wilson Hall.

I did a high school mentorship at Fermilab in Spring '93 where we were researching information technology, our final presentation featured a gushy section about a thing called the World Wide Web and some 0.8-ish version of NCSA Mosaic. We must have sounded like idiots.

Very cool. I was at Fermilab in the late 80's / early 90's. No cell phones or digital cameras yet. The few photos I have were taken by official photographers.

Fun personal factoid: Paul Mantsch, the science manager for Pierre Auger, lived just down the street from me and worked only a couple floors away in Wilson Hall at Fermilab.

Muon Wobble Mystery Deepens as Fermilab Hits Precision Goal
After six years of meticulous measurements, scientists at Fermilab have delivered their final word on one of physics’ most puzzling mysteries: how much does a muon wobble in a magnetic field? The answer, precise to 127 parts-per-billion, surpassed their original...
