this memepost finally gave me the motivation to get around to trying this for the first time and yeah them games do be snappy. I swear they feel snappier than the fastrom on bizhawk 'w'

it uses the ps1 version of x3, which is neat because ost but sadge because this port has bad input lag ):
He doesn't know that Mega Man X Collection for the PS2 and GameCube features source code ports of the first three games and is the best way to play them with no slowdown or input latency while the Legacy Collection has poor SNES emulation

Alright, step 1 of the SNES Ghidra loader overhaul is done, I have a working header parser that I don't hate. Now to start ripping out some of the hard-coded block mapping and actually generate maps that make sense (like not mapping the FastROM mirrors for non-FastROM games).

We're getting close to a big alttp randomizer base ROM update that includes, among other things, a complete FastROM conversion (game runs ~33% faster under many circumstances) and the lag reduction is almost comical I think some players are going to find it more than a little jarring

Let's restart! Starting over with the randomizer I started with: ALTTP! Tomorrow at 3PM Pacific!

Hope to see you there if you don't have any plans!

Depending on how intense your game is, it might help you processing the game about 10-15% faster. Given that we had no coprocessors as SA-1 and Super FX, this seemed very useful if you had no more spare time available on the SNES CPU, even with FastROM.

The vinesauce guy is playing alttpr on twitch with enemy shuffle. I wonder if anyone told him about fastrom or if he's noticed how butter smooth the big screens with a bunch of random enemies are compared to before.

I'm sorry FASTROM*, but also citing some praise I received on my handling of it on a podcast (lol again)

Writing an account of the ALTTPR FastROM Debacle vis a vis community engagement (to hopefully get a job as a support engineer at a computer company lol)

Aladdin on the SNES is the definitive version in my opinion as it's the version I find more fun & fair.
It's a shame the the game has a tenancy to lag in places

The silly thing is that the game actually use a FastROM cartridge but due to an oversight
the flag enabling it in code is never set

Are improvement hacks considered as cheats? for example the fastrom conversion of castlevania 4 to reduce lag

According to the orginal Out of This World / Another World developer, it did cost more to purchase fastrom 3.58Mhz chips. No wonder it was avoided like the plague.

Reminds me, why wasn' the SNES version of Faceball 2000 officially a game that uaed fastrom? The game is almost an unplayable slideshow in the way it was released. I guess it waa more expensive to buy fastrom boards? Does anyone actually know?

That somehow morphed into people believing I took romhacking.net database and used it to make romhacks.org (!) which I never did...and if you actually look at

Something like that, turns the CPU speed up ~33% when reading from ROM if the bank has the high bit set and $01 has been written to the MEMSEL register. The latest update to the randomizer includes a full FastROM conversion which has been mildly controversial.
