FamicomCD has just released a playable demo of Super Mario Bros. CD that can be used on actual hardware or emulators. It's basically a ROM hack of Super Mario World and shows what the game could have looked like on a CD-based NES add-on. This isn't just a simple skin, but rather a fan game that makes use of the MSU-1 chip to deliver rich CD-quality music, fully animated cut scenes, and more complex environments, even on original hardware via the SD2SNES/FXPak Pro. The FamicomCD website overhaul beta is here! The main page, SMBCD support sheet, and contact list have seen a facelift so far.

The language system is better than before too! Instead of having unique pages for every language, text loaded from txt files and is replaced on the fly!

This is no longer in active development, however during mid-2024, I worked on a version of the fictional "FamicomCD" game console created by KingMayro.

The only tangible thing to come out of it was a test design for a shell. It was flawed.

I may post pictures of it later.

Seriously though, go give the FamicomCD team a big ol' support. Seeing their Super Mario Bros. CD project literally felt like I stepped onto an alternate reality where Nintendo did the CD add-on for one of their consoles!

So...I found this in an alternate reality...a @famicomcd.bsky.social port of Magical Drop 2 for the arcades! Click on a cover to view some info!
Japanese "cover" of Magical Drop 2's FamicomCD/NES-CD port. This is the original release with the original Japanese voices. For this version, the music is entirely unique, consisting of catchy 80's-esque disco-like eurobeat tunes that sounded like it came out of Super Mario Bros. CD because come on, you gotta at least have something to showcase what the CD is capable, right? Out of all of the tunes, the title screen theme, "Before Fight", the win/lose and Game Over jingles and "Magical Drop Shuffle" (during the staff roll and results screen after the staff roll) are all retained. The PAL "cover" of the port. It was known as "Magical Drop 2" outside of Japan. Like with all other international releases of Magical Drop, all of the Japanese voices have been guttered except for Fool's and replaced with generic narrators representing different languages. Character dialouge has also been shot down completely and has the characters staring at each other awkwardly before a battle, much like the original arcade version of Magical Drop 2. This is the only international release of the port until 2000. The American NTSC "cover" of the port known as the "Kanga Roddy Special Edition" version. Released a few years later in 2000 and a very rare release. Sold locally on the Californian state and to help promote the PC game "Adventures with Kanga Roddy: The Journey to Snow Mountain", a special version was done with Kanga Roddy taking Black Pierrot's place. While the tarot characters retains the Steve Miller narrations, Kanga Roddy reuses his voice lines and animations from said game and sports a unique eurobeat theme fitting to his character. This is also the final title ever released for the FamicomCD/NES-CD, ending support for the peripheral/all-in-one console after a decade.
