Removing the three-day wait was one recommendation of a review of Ireland’s abortion services by barrister Marie O’Shea BL

She told @investigates.thejournal.ie this wait means some people are “deprived of care – care that they have a statutory right to receive”.

Ireland voted to repeal the Eighth Amendment in 2018, yet some women here still have to seek an abortion abroad.

But Irish women are not alone in this. More than 5,000 European women have to travel abroad to access abortion care every year.

Women still have to travel from Ireland to the UK for an abortion. They told us about the trauma of this journey.

"I’ve never felt so abandoned by my country" - While many women can now access abortion services within Ireland, others are still forced to travel for a variety of reasons.
