#Espalier
Have a mature apple and cherry that came with the house and a hazel but the deer & squirrels get those, a baby plum and a baby apricot-plum. My three potted figs are the same, sulky. Adding two espalier apples along a path, and a pear, peach, and now apricot in the spring. That'll be it space wise.

I’m going to do one row of an espalier with it but grafting an ashmead kernal on top for the rest of the rows

🌿🍇🍎 Espalier fruit trees are space-saving, beautiful, and productive! Train apples, pears, or figs flat against a wall or trellis for stunning architectural interest and easy harvesting. A perfect blend of art and horticulture! #Espalier #Gardening #FruitTrees

🌱 espalier apple tree with (4) varieties including Gala, Pippin, Braeburn, & Fuji. Espalier trees are efficient in small places. This is my third harvest as each variety ripens at different times.

One Braeburn Apple is inside the vegetable bag because Indidnt want it to fall onto the ground.

Pruned the fruit trees against the fence in this border, also tied them in.
I bought them as small normal trees and slowly turning them into espalier trees by pruning them and tying them in.
I can see more fruit bearing buds appearing, it takes time, but it’s definitely worth it. 🌱

this isn't *just* super cool looking—you actually get better yield from citrus trees when trained in espalier like this

We're still picking apples off our espalier, what could possibly be in crisis

Anyway moving my apples to my new espalier frame today so they can set in a little before it get really cold

I will think about each one more than apparently these “men” I read about in the popular magazines will think about anything ever

AND YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF NONENGINEERING BY A HILARIOUS ESPALIER

(pruning the espalier which is basically nothing but apical meristems)

I think we’ll be ready for Sunset Magazine to shoot soon. 🤩 There is ginger, and the best-ever Thai lemongrass next to the banana tree. Across is an espalier plum and dragon fruit against the house, dahlias, then heirloom tomatoes. Chicken run allows for shade/sun, roof opens! 🌱

I am trying to espalier a concord grape not tamed!
But it's the fun an challenge

Moon and Stars Watermelon🌘🌙✨First year trellising like this, looks super cool, especially the starry leaves on this varietal. 🌱 We also did some pumpkins on the same fence and they turned out really cool too. Had they gotten too heavy we would’ve made a hammock sling to the espalier cables.

First build project for a client is wrapped up. A sturdy, rustic arbor for climbing roses to be added and providing shade for the hydrangeas. A support trellis for the espalier apple tree. Shrunk the lawn for easier management and more room to plant.

I have a small yard and yep, that’s the reason for the espalier plus it saves me from having another plant for cross pollination. I saw a kiwi berry with male and female in one plant but it was pricey (only about 12-14” tall) for $89

I just googled 3 in 1 columnar apple tree, it sounds like cool tree! That’s awesome you have espalier pear tree, I find them to be interesting and creative!

Ah OK because I have seen 3 in 1 columnar at my local nursery. They also have espalier (I have an espalier Asian pear tree and I never know what I will get!)

Getting ready for next week's client project, which is a first that includes a building component!

This pile of Alaskan yellow cedar is gonna become a simple, rustic arbor for a climbing rose and a support trellis for an espalier apple tree 😍

Carl, do the deer leave your espalier apples alone, for the most part preferring apples that are on the ground?

Probably a couple of years before any worthwhile crop off the espalier of Egremont Russet that I planted a couple of years ago. Looking forward to it, as it will be different to the other varieties such as Cox and Margil elsewhere in the garden

I love pear trees and thought about growing one in espalier but ended up choosing an apple tree instead - pears do tend to overripe around here, attracting a lot of unwanted wasps…..

Drought Smart Edible Landscaping
Cacti and succulents are drought-tolerant plants, flourishing even in dry conditions. Espalier techniques can be used to grow fruit trees on walls or fences with limited space available for them. Edible landscaping is becoming more and more popular, providing both environmental and health benefits. By cultivating your own vegetables, fruits, and herbs at home you can save money and reduce carbon emissions from transporting produce from faraway farms.

Oh my goodness an espalier. Doesn’t it look marvellous against the house wall. Oh apple crumble with custard I think. Or do you prefer pie? Is it much work to keep it looking that good? #gardenstuff
