“As our population ages and a greater number of people die each year, without action this will place our health and care system under ever greater pressure. In 10 years, the need for end-of-life care will rise by 10% compared with today. More than 60,000 more people will need care every year.” #EOLC

This report on the financial sustainability of adult hospices in England paints a sobering but not an unexpected picture.

It highlights the persistent inequities in access to #palliative and #EoLc across the country…a postcode lottery that continues to fail too many people.
The National Audit Office has published a report on the financial sustainability of England's adult hospices, calling it a matter of "national importance".

It says the Govt lacks clarity on how its funding impacts hospices as demand for end of life care rises.

#Ambition2021 and the 2025 commission on PC and #EOLC urge for more funding of #researchinpc only 0.26% of the total health research funding is allocated to #PalliativeCare #HealthResearch . urgent investment needed
New paper published @flissmurtagh.bsky.social Funding for palliative research remains very low: out of total of 18,023 health research awards in 2022, only 136 related to palliative research – just 0.26% of the total £4.2billion awarded. See spcare.bmj.com/content/earl...

Evil Old Lady Coworker tattled on me to our supervisor about a mistake I made even though EOLC and I had already discussed said mistake and I owned up to it and apologized. That conversation was not enough for her though apparently she had to go tell Mom in order to… shame me????

Thank you, I think it will be long term as since the day I started the community nursing role, I was drawn to all the palliative/ EOLC patients 😊 since then I’ve been building my knowledge and learning, spending time with palliative care teams.

Yesterday, I received my toolkit from the @victstuproject.bsky.social

It was a privilege to be part of this study & see the publication of these resources. These are now in place with our hospice Day Service, IPU & Community Engagement teams to support accessible #EoLC planning conversations 1/2

It is only even slightly a problem if one believes massive chunks of GDP including medical / EOLC won't be taken over by AI/robots in like 50-100 years.

Given that rightwingers believe both strongly indicates they are lying (poorly) or delusional
Maybe, and hear me out, maybe the falling birth rate isn’t actually a problem.
September 3, 2025 at 7:39 AM
Ah! Well, this is why he’s unfitted to be leading the “we should change EoLC criteria” debate
August 25, 2025 at 4:30 AM
Not sure how to answer this - is your position that "everyone should get access to all drugs irrespective of cost, and until that happens there can be no expanded EoLC"? Because that seems like a pretty tall order to meet, even in a "properly" social-democratic state.
August 25, 2025 at 1:44 AM
I think that we should not be expanding EoLC without a big increase in resources for both palliative care and disability support. Hence, I suspect the fact ACT are leading the charge on this while being in government will (rightly) doom getting support from opposition MPs.
