#Elitism
This elitism is astounding besides the racism.

THIS version of elitism is what is meant by meritocracy, which is a sort of utopian system that we can't actually achieve but can strive for.

Other definitions of the "elite" in "elitism" can be much more arbitrary about who is a member of an elite class.

There is a definition of "elitism" for which this is true, but also I don't think its the one most people who disparage "elitism" have in mind (I agree that recognizing expertise and capability are good*)!

*While acknowledging the privileges that made them possible.
Elitism is good. It is the recognition of expertise and capability.

The fact that it has been abused in the service of evil ends no more undermines it as a concept than the same fact undermines biological science.

You are conflating elitism with expertise.

People love to log onto Bluesky.com and say that elitism gets a bad wrap

I've heard arguments that drunkenness in particular was understood as a women's issue because if your husband was a drunk you were basically screwed, so the intersection of temperance with women's suffrage kinda made sense.

That said, there was also a lot of genteel elitism worked into the mix.

What’s great is this guy’s thread proves your point re: confidence while refuting his point re: elitism at the same time.
November 20, 2025 at 11:59 PM
This is so funny because elitism refers to an elite - however that is defined - dominating a society (or other social system). It does not refer to “recognizing expertise,” which this guy would know if he consulted an expert on this topic before posting. Put it in the Bsky Louvre.
Elitism is good. It is the recognition of expertise and capability.

The fact that it has been abused in the service of evil ends no more undermines it as a concept than the same fact undermines biological science.

Conflating expertise and elitism is a pretty dumb thing to do

It’s most likely ALWAYS been going on. Misogyny. $. Elitism. Privilege.

Wealth hoarding, politicians, corporate greed, unsustainable behaviors, victim narratives, privatized prisons, s3x trade, consumerism, elitism, racism, s3xism, selfishness, and addiction are all symptoms of human disparity.

This is why we can't have nice things.

much like the kind vladimir ilyich i am a believer in benevolent elitism

Academic elitism reveal but if ur groaning about a three page paper and can’t whip it up in an hour or two (max) u shouldn’t be in law school

not too familiar with anyone in the org, but most of their software is minimalism combined with elitism and it results in software that almost always requires you to edit its source code to be able to use it

for whatever reason, they see providing something as basic as a config file as bloat

Elitism is horrible, what you are intentionally skewing is exceptionalism and elitism. Elitism is a bad idea used by people trying to maintain power without being exceptional. Intentionally misconstruing one with the other is not exceptionalism, in fact its the opposite.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of what elitism is and means. It means people with power, in whatever form, get preferential treatment. It doesn't mean they are better at something. Paying more to an athlete because they have more skill at their sport is not elitism.

The politics of TI are definitely a part of it, they're kinda confusing, and I don't feel like they have enough detail to really be a useful lesson

Syndrome is clearly fighting against the idea of elitism, but what kind? Is he anti anti-generational wealth or anti-doctors telling people what to do?

🧋😶 there's much more subtle & pervasive content in the 'canon of western knowledge' which assumes & reinforces the status quo white supremacist elitism which feeds their wealth & power,,

This meme lets simpletons cover all their bases: they can package populism inside elitism, and pretend that being uninformed is actually to be a deft wielder of Occam's razor.
November 20, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Elitism doesn’t necessarily denote expertise or capability.
November 20, 2025 at 7:11 PM
That is not what elitism is. That's not what elites are. And even what you describes would only work if you live in some strange utopia that is at least close to bordering on meritocracy. And that doesn't exist. Not even close. It's literally impossible in anything that's remotely capitalist.

I love when professors of law use words on the internet with new definitions entirely unique to that professor’s mind! I take it you believe in favoured treatment of elites bc they’re smart and rich then? That’s what you’re saying isn’t inherently a bad thing?
November 20, 2025 at 6:14 PM
When has elitism ever not been abused by the elite? Hello? What are some examples you could point to that show that the concept of elitism isn’t inherently bad?

very importantly, being a great dj necessitates not getting caught up in your own shit. in elitism and superiority. it rewards being curious and open to all kinds of music and it rewards making connections and being social. its absolutely what i need right now

I have always had distaste for how politics plays games with lives for personal benefit of those in power. The seductive drug of wealth & privilege delivers a dangerous delusional belief in many of elitism & grandiosity where they see their worth above & apart from others dividing us even more.
