For the first time, we have compared European #kettleholes with prairie potholes (North America) in terms of their #ecohydrology in a review.

A special thanks go to Majid Taie Semiromi. 🙏🏼

Why Are Different Sediment Sizes in Rivers So Important? 🪨

From tiny clay particles to chunky cobbles, rivers carry a mix of sediment sizes, and that’s a very good thing!

Diverse sediment = a healthy river!

Hydrology Paper of the Day @richard-fewster.bsky.social on how shrinking glaciers and increasing temperatures in the Southern Alps (New Zealand) causes peatland initiation and landscape-scale changes: dynamics of peat formation near the Rob Roy glacier, and ecohydrology on the scale of centuries.
Our new paper shows peat initiating since 1949 C.E. in a rapidly warming and deglaciating valley in Aotearoa/New Zealand. An amazing montane site, with implications for peatland dynamics at high elevations and latitudes under anthropogenic climate change. Open access here: doi.org/10.1029/2024...

I started working at MAC 30 years ago this week teaching courses for two geography legends: hydrology (M-k. Woo) and biogeography (G. MacDonald). That experience and mentoring from Profs Woo and Rouse helped shape a research career in the emerging (at that time) field of ecohydrology. #BestJobEver
