Let me guess, only people rich enough to itemize their deductions will actually get to use that rebate without sacrificing the EITC lol

After over four months, the state budget impasse has ended, with the General Assembly delivering a budget that boosts public school funding by hundreds of millions of dollars, provides historic investments in anti-hunger programs, and creates a new tax credit for nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians.

I’m proud to vote for a budget with no new taxes or reductions in our rainy day fund with big wins for all PA like first-time charter school reform saving our school districts $178 million in savings; a nearly $600 million increase in education funding & a 1st time PA EITC tax credit for PA workers🇺🇸

The IRS didn't even bother to pay me my refund (mostly EITC) this past year. I seriously doubt I'll be filing in 2026.
Mel, a tech startup CEO in Rhode Island, said she refuses to pay, calling the way the federal government has been run in the past year “taxation without representation.”

My story on the growing "why should we pay taxes?" chatter on TikTok in the wake of the government shutdown.

You can find the National Academies of Science report here. The bottom line is that we can use the tax system to vastly reduce poverty.

Nearly there! One last push…

Any EFC signature experts out there?

I’ve a pendant that I got given as a leaving present from an old job and I’m gonna auction it off with 25% going to EITC, but need advice on who signed this and possibly even what game it was for?

Thanks Toffees 💙

Wait, you don't think there's a difference between a minority party & a majority party?

The majority party sets & makes policy. They get to initiate investigations, chair committee hearings... and pass bills. IOW, majority holds the power

Ex: what Biden did with the thin majority in his 1st 2 yrs

The IRS is a tax agency we have to interact with, and also a key means that a lot of safety net programs (EITC, CTC) are delivered.
Since Trump took over, the IRS has
*lost 3/4ths of agency leadership
*one quarter of employees
*is now on its 8th leader
New leader has no experience, also leading SSA

New working paper posted last week. This is one of my dissertation chapters, I estimate the effect of a major expansion of the federal EITC on measures of material hardship (it helps!). I’ll have a poster on this at #2025APPAM find me if you want to chat about it papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

The Effect of Expansions to the Earned Income Tax Credit on the Material Hardship of Families with Children

In 2022, nearly half of children in the United States (45 percent, or 32 million) had experienced material hardship, or difficulty meeting a basic need like foo

And yes it is really weird that EITC and SNAP, which are our two largest anti-poverty programs do not affect the official poverty rate. Neither does HCV for that matter.

What is even worse is that when a Republican cuts checks a good portion likes it and when a Dem does it they think it’s nice for them but mostly going to buy drugs. See EITC experience.

They literally do not believe that there is anyone dependent on SNAP who isn’t a eg black single mother with 9 kids (who would deserve SNAP as much as anyone else, to be clear) and they are hell bent on proving this.

2023 was when we stopped feeding kids in schools.

2021 was when we started, and had the monthly expanded eitc, and continuous medicaid enrollment. Look at how much having those three things helped just in this one graph.

Then they went away.
USDA hasn’t released its data for 2024 yet, but the number of people experiencing food insecurity almost certainly increased again.

And will increase yet again in 2025, which is why Trump canceled the food security reports after this year.

What would build trust? Show the system strengthens people, not traps them. Smooth benefit cliffs, expand earnings supplements like EITC/CTC - designs that raise work AND cut poverty.

We're all one people, one family. We don't have to compromise independence to provide for the least of these.

Thrilled to co-introduce a groundbreaking DC Child Tax Credit with Councilmember Zachary Parker and colleagues. Ashley, a DC mom of 2 earning $60k, could see a 100% match on the federal EITC and an added $1,000 per child through DC. A real lift for families, our kids, our future.

The so-called "corporatist establishment" Dems did this:
$1B for Head Start
$24B Childcare fund
$15B in low-income childcare grants
$46.5B in housing assistance
$5B to fight homelessness
$5B for utilities assistance

Who does it serve for you to share misinfo on Dems?

Milton Friedman promoted negative income tax. The EITC was a more palatable form of that to conservatives cause it's the same thing with work requirements.

If the modern GOP were sane then the UBI & negative tax (& single payer) would get their support as they all preserve the free market.

My dad still talks about the first time he and my mom did taxes together before they were married and was so disbelieving at how much she got back from EITC as a single mother of a 4 year old that he did her taxes twice to be sure

Thank you @cmzparker5.bsky.social for championing a DC child tax credit! Both the EITC and CTC reduce child poverty, improve the life trajectories of children, and boost inclusive economic growth.

I was proud to co-introduce this amendment to help residents most in need. While disappointed the retirement savings protection piece was not ultimately included, I’m very glad to have worked w/ @cmzparker5.bsky.social to pass the EITC and Child Tax Credit - meaningful relief for DC families.

This amendment takes two key actions to support families:

➡️ Restores the EITC to 100% of the federal credit by 2026 — three years faster than planned.
➡️ Funds a $1,000 Child Tax Credit for all children under 18, targeted to the low-income families who need it most.
