I worked with a translator to translate the Breath of Fire II: Shimei no Ko CD soundtrack booklet! Composer Yuko Takehara says very little here, but I think you'll be heavily amused by the fictionalized, over-the-top behind the scenes production story they included inside.
Breath of Fire II Behind the Scenes of Production “Get to it, Jinta!“ Dragnier Note: The following game production “behind the scenes” story, written by a key planner and story writer of Breath of Fire II’s staff, is an over-the-top, completely fictionalized story about the development of the game. When this story was submitted for the Breath of Fire II album booklet, management insisted that a normal production diary be written. This request was disregarded and instead, this humorous story was pushed through.

Jupiter has announced a new puzzle game called PICROSS S Capcom Classics edition, releasing on Nintendo Switch. The game will include characters and artwork from 40 retro Capcom games, with Breath of Fire & Breath of Fire II being among them!

I was the one who interviewed Breath of Fire II's text editor for the Breath of Fire Fan Page (also posted on the fan site, Dragnier).

The lack of proper citation here is incredibly disappointing.

Breath of fire 2 starts pretty smoothly - BoF2 is a fucked up game especially for when it was released, and we have a quote from a translator!

Not from the author's interview, unless he was part of The Breath of Fire Fan Page. Oh? And he wasn't the translator, he edited the translated text. :>
upon starting a new game, players of Breath of Fire II are greeted by ominous music and the opening of a hideous reptilian eye. A voice in the darkness cries about giving yourself to God and becoming God’s strength. I am sure there were more than a few pearls being clutched and mouths agape at the content on display. Somebody at Nintendo of America had to be sweating like a sinner in church! After all, their policies were quite clear (though inconsistently upheld). This is none other than Breath of Fire II, the globe-trotting, history-spanning, darkly religious, draconically epic sequel to the original Breath of Fire, though I describe it simply as “formative”. That’s a word some of us may not feel comfortable applying to video games and our experiences with them. Has a video game ever changed your worldview? For me, when it comes to Breath of Fire II, there are few words more appropriate than formative. I spend a lot of words in this book regarding themes, analyses and the meaning embedded in these stories told by means of the Super “There was so much going on in the industry at the time. Congressional hearings, lawsuits, attempts to ban video games ... Strangely I think some of us had concerns but no real ability to make significant changes, especially to the design or animation. I think if the story had been different with regard to the protagonist’s mission, maybe there would have been more issues. I’m also guessing most of the folks looking to ban games were focused on the blood, gore and over- the-top realistic violence than playing 40 hours into an animated RPG to find something to be offended by.” Justin Berenbaum, translator

I fiddled with every setting just now, tried setting things back to the default, and even turned it back to the settings you guys had on the Dragnier page for the game and the problem persists either way.
I guess it isn't that huge a deal, the game still looks fine in gameplay, but it's still a drag
