And maybe, over time, my child also came to realise that there is no/little teacher attunement to what are basically environmental stressors that disproportionately affect these neurominorities. And we’re now in #doubleempathyproblem territory 🤷♀️

And if we’re talking about autistic children (which we often are where absence/placement breakdown is concerned), effective comms prob v difficult unless school can recognise & mitigate the #doubleempathyproblem

We also need to look critically at eg GCSE marking criteria - prob lots is overdue for decolonisation, eg re the #doubleempathyproblem that exists between eg an #autistic child and a non-autistic examiner.

While we have had equal & opposite cultural conditioning to hold in extremely low esteem groups eg NDs with lived experience (all ages), parents/caregivers & CYP, to the extent that #actuallyautistic knowledge (eg of #sensoryneeds) is not regarded as valid viewed by #NTgaze.

Valuing divergent/unexpected responses to texts is so important here. There is no single ‘correct’ way to ‘comprehend’. Meaning is co-created between author and reader. Important to bear the #doubleempathyproblem in mind. Esp re ND child + NT author mismatch 🤔

… this episode seems to have been an outlier. Earlier episodes barely mention SEND. If you like being cheered on to hold the behavioural line & being told that you know best as a professional (vs parents, obvs), look no further! I spy a #doubleempathyproblem

Outstanding work from Ian ✨ mapping what must surely be the nuts and bolts of #ableism in school behaviour policies. The #doubleempathyproblem is worryingly deep in exactly the settings where our #ND children should be valued and supported - not punished 😔
across 563 school behaviour policies, i found that notions of 'misbehaviour' coalesce with a whole constellation of linguistic features. of course, these linguistic features are not empirically connected to 'misbehaviour', but they are strongly ideologically connected.

I’d imagine the vast majority of parent/ carers identify strongly with this. Sadly. 1 in 2 is a horrific statistic.
