Ding Dong the Devil is Dead. "If you've seen all the bizarre things I've encountered in my 237 years of life, you'd stay composed over a mere undead, too", Aodhán chuckles in amusement. "Well, if you've witnessed so many 'bizarre things' as you so eloquently put it, do enlighten us", Astarion says, tone sharp, gaze narrowing. "It might help us gauge what level of weirdness might actually prompt a reaction from someone as apparently unflappable as yourself." Aodhán taps his chin, pretending to think, the barest hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Let’s seeee..." His voice trails off as he recalls a memory. "Oh! Fell from a Spanner once. Only saved myself from the Troll below by turning into a raven and flying away. They were working together—it was utterly fascinating." The druid even dares to grin at the memory, his freckled face lighting up as if recounting a pleasant afternoon stroll rather than a life-or-death escape. "What in the Nine Hells is a Spanner?", Shadowheart asks, her brows furrowing, curiosity overtaking her skepticism. "A sentient bridge", Aodhán explains casually, as though it's the most normal thing in the world. "Originally part of a wizard's tower, but exposed to so much magic, they eventually gain consciousness and... well, they tend to run away. They find rivers or valleys to hide over, waiting for unsuspecting travelers to cross before toppling them into whatever lies below. Very temperamental." "And the troll?", Shadowheart presses, clearly intrigued now. "Ah, yes, Donovan—the bridge—had made a deal with Hephaistos, the Troll beneath him. Donovan would drop food down, and in exchange, Hephaistos would scare away the wizard who kept trying to reclaim his creation." Aodhán beams at the memory as if it's some cherished bedtime story, "I had the most fascinating talk with the two." Astarion exhales a long, drawn-out sigh, dragging a hand down his pale face. "I genuinely cannot decide what's more absurd: that sentient bridges exist or that somewhere out there, there is a Troll named Hephaistos." "I don't believe a single word of it", Shadowheart declares, shaking her head. "Suit yourself", Aodhán replies with a shrug, stretching his lithe frame before turning toward the rest of the group. The other members of their band emerge from the hidden room behind them, Octavian's broad figure leading the way as he pockets a black coin from their latest haul. "Are we ready to get out of here?" Aodhán asks. Tav gives him a short nod, his mismatched eyes glinting with faint irritation. "Yeah. Let's find that Tiefling camp. We're low on supplies, but we've got enough gold to buy what we need—assuming they're selling anything." The group begins packing up, and as they make their way out of the crypt, Shadowheart sidles up to Gale. "Have you ever heard of a Spanner?" she asks, her voice tinged with curiosity. "Ah, yes, a sentient bridge..." Astarion stops listening at that point, because what the fuck?
