I just got a letter from the government of Luxembourg. Apparently I’ve been issued an ID number by the National Registry of Natural Persons. Has anyone else received this from Luxembourg? I think it’s been 10 years at least since I’ve even been to Luxembourg, so this is pretty weird.

Digital policy The party advocates the establishment of a Ministry of Digitalisation to enable efficient digital government and to promote digitalisation, which Volt believes has been overslept.[23] The party sees immense opportunities in AI systems, but at the same time emphasises that these should not be blindly left to the free market. The party is in favour of an ethical AI policy at national, European and international level. Among other things, Volt proposes providing every citizen with their own AI chatbot based on open source and reliable data. AI systems should be labelled as safe by an independent party and school children should receive a basic AI education including programming and ethics. Volt also wants to oblige AI providers to disclose data sources and emphasises the need for transparency.[26][27]

You are right.

We can do a lot to simplify things for companies and citizens, while enforcing our good laws- unified data bases, digitalisation, remote controls, proper staffing of agencies.

Weakening EU laws, as the most polluting industries and sectors ask for, is not simple. It's simply wrong.

I love progress and am happy to see investment in it—but wonder if the amounts currently going into genAI are a missed opportunity to invest in more mundane "data plumbing" and digitalisation. Which could eventually have higher societal benefits.

I am genuinely impressed by large language models - they can absorb disparate components of text into some consolidated view, they can produce extremely good language and - with the right model - translate pretty well between languages and they are an excellent text based UI for humans to use. But..

Chart showing the investment cycle and evolution of investment expectations of the EU and US. Geopolitical risks impact firms on both sides of the Atlantic. While the short-term outlook is better than expected, there remains huge uncertainty related to the nature and extent of more permanent geopolitical shifts and breaks. This column reports findings from the EIB Investment Survey 2025, which show that EU and US firms continue to invest, albeit with a somewhat weaker appetite. US firms have been adjusting their supply chains, looking into import substitution, enhanced diversification, and expanding production capacity. EU firms are taking a measured approach, balancing measures to improve efficiency and resilience, and investing in digitalisation, energy efficiency, and mitigation as drivers for future competitiveness. As geopolitical risks unfold, the competitiveness of EU firms will increasingly depend on the EU’s capacity to deliver on the Draghi and Letta agendas.
