We’re improving access to important #digitalcollections - whether it be a volunteer nurse’s reaction to a declaration of war, a poignant letter from a child to her father on the front-line during #WWI or a handwritten diary by a nineteenth century British socialite! 🎉 #digitalarchives #WDPD2025 🎉

It's been a hectic three years on the Utaina team but this most important work has been completed. Don't know your past, can't know your future. I take a lot of pride in what the team accomplished. #digitalarchives #culturalheritage #newzealand #audiovisual #history www.1news.co.nz/2025/10/18/p...

"It's the first step in unlocking this kind of material so that future generations of New Zealanders have access to it," National Library Chief Librarian Jess Moran said.

As much as people don't like to hear it, #digitallibraries and #digitalarchives are going to be increasingly prevalent, DESPITE format obsolescence. The key is to have people who are trained (like me) to handle those hazards.
A key point here about libraries. One of the investment cases for libraries/archives/museums is that forms of knowledge are changing - the special collections we should be collecting now for humanities & social science research are digital: web/social media/personal digital collns, highly ephemeral.
The study of humanities, and all of science, is a space in which to learn how to learn.

Blog 4: Why research-led teaching is essential in arts and humanities and why we need to recognise the costs of our laboratory, the library.

Pro: text scraping PDFs worked pretty well!

Con: I still have to go in and fix so much before I can start trying to consolidate things.

Anyone have any tips? #digitalArchives #pdfScraping #textAnalysis
