In my dictionary, the phrases "post-liberal" and
"no enemies to the right" and "neo-reactionary" and "alt-right" are merely euphemisms for "fascist" and "authoritarian."
🔥 A former president & a former chairman of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) resigned from ISI’s board on Friday. One of them posted this warning that “conservative institutions are being systematically…undermined by post-liberals who promote a ‘no enemies to the right’ mindset.” 1/

The only place that success comes before work is in the dictionary. Today was a good day's work. Be proud when you work hard.

Why aren't we teaching kids to crack open the dictionary upon discovery of unrecognized words?? 🤦

Am I the ONLY person reading this and asking if ANYONE thought introducing a DICTIONARY to look up what a word means if someone doesn't know it helps? THAT'S how I still learn new words.

Dictionary (or Thesaurus) are never mentioned in the article. Not once. I had both in early elementary school.

One of the best compliments I've heard is that our family had the most used dictionary they'd ever seen - dog-eared, smudged pages, etc. It was always within arms length of our kitchen table.

And the 'just move along' part is so insulting to the writer and the reader! (Not shouting at you just mad that this exists). The dictionary is your friend, words are beautiful, we are lucky to have so many - how can they stomach flattening the myriad ways we have to express ourselves???

The dictionary part. I STILL use a dictionary.
The children can’t read (and most adults can’t either). I’ve never even heard of any of these “strategies”.

Are we not using dictionaries anymore to look up unfamiliar words? Are we teaching people that done is better than correct?
how did i go so long not knowing we were literally teaching people to read wrong. i knew something wasn't right but jesus christ www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...

This is so "old man yells at cloud", but looking up a word in a dictionary is valid! (Which now have to be physical dictionaries, because the ones online are getting slopped, too...) Guessing that takes too much time somehow?

please stop threatening me. I’m just looking up words in the dictionary. No need for this kind of aggression.

Verrückter Fakt des Tages: #vfdt
Über die angeblich so jämmerlichen Arme des T-Rex werden oft Witze gerissen - in Wahrheit hätte uns T-Rex beim Armdrücken problemlos vernichtet. Seine Arme waren kurz, aber nicht nutzlos. Er konnte damit wohl Beute mit mächtigem Griff festhalten, während er sie fraß.

Hand up! ✋

First thing I do on any phone/computer is turn off predictive text and autocorrect—my vocabulary is wider than any commercial product's dictionary coverage.

And I'm contractually forbidden from using LLMs for work. Seriously, I'd be in breach of contract if I used them in my writing.
Hands up if you've never used Chat GPT ✋

(I feel like Dozer and Tank in The Matrix right now - at first I didn't use it because, rather ironically, I'm lazy and stubborn (peak Taurus energy there) - literally no, don't make me use the new thing I don't wanna. Now I'm glad I didn't 😅)
Probably a good way to tell right now if the job you’re applying for is run by absolute dumbfucks is to ask if they’re using AI.

What you see when you look up “batshit crazy“ in the dictionary:
Sure grocery prices are crazy and nobody can buy a house but Trump solved 9 wars today, got Madagascar to give us 4 trillion dollars, is building us a ballroom and triumphal arch, and renovating his jet from Qatar while planning invasions of Venezuela and Argentina.

I was upset at my buddy Mark who borrowed my dictionary and refuses to return it.

I said: Mark, my words!

this is genuinely a very goofy argument and I know it is one because you are bringing out merriam webster’s dictionary like it’s a high school policy topicality debate. the argument you are trying to assert would rule out the literal bolsheviks as party partisans lol.
They are less than ideal partisans though. Don’t get mad at me, get mad at what words mean. I don’t think that anger is unjustified or anything but they aren’t “partisans”

i dont know how to explain to ppl that the definition of a word isn't subjective lmfao. that's what the dictionary is for ?????

with all the discussions about reading skills I’m remembering that I used to read the dictionary for fun in elementary school
