You name any type of device or platform that collects data, a company exists that can package it and sell it as a data stream to police to be fused with everything else. CLEAR? Oh, yea. Geolocation from advertising databrokers? Yes!

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

anyone switching to Xiaohongshu and getting yelled at saying "you're giving china all your data!": China already has your data. Legally, actually. China buys a lot of data on american citizens from databrokers. they dont have to steal it, american companies sell it to them willingly

That's the thing about people: if you tell them not to do something, especially without a good justification, they're gonna have an instinct to rebel.

Besides, bad actors both in and out of China can (and already do) buy the same data from databrokers anyway. It literally doesn't matter.

1. Delete any unused accounts that you can
2. Use a service that will work on removing your information from databrokers. I've used pentester, others exist
3. Use a VPN and firewall and anti-virus (on all devices)
4. Mostly just stuff we should all be doing anyway. I'm looking for more ideas myself
