This beautiful dark green fritillary lands on an image of a lemon - on our outside tablecloth - and tries to feed or 'mudpuddle' on it. He (and his friends) do this for hours on end at this time of year. We wonder what (if anything) they are obtaining. 🦋 #butterfly #darkgreenfritillary #pyrenees

They have orange upper wings, the green is only on the underside (with by silvery spots)

The food plant is pansies & violets. They're strong fliers, so can be hard to see clearly unless at rest.
