#DROS25
If you attended #Dros25 back in March, you should recognize this patch of pavement …

Take Exit 3, make a right turn at the end of the ramp, follow signage & turn left into the T&C hotel grounds.

Y’all were there!

The live-fire action on Saturday took place in an area you _know._

..."women _and the poor._"

At #dros25 I had a conversation with several #Drosophila people who are far better known than I am. One is the scientist-daughter of a very famous, now deceased, Fly Person. None of them knew about this provision. The women were particularly incensed. As they should be!

At #dros25, I heard these concerns voiced by #Drosophila attendees at every point in the academic career path.

Their anxieties aren't limited to scientific pursuits. They spanned the full range of the assaults on civil liberties and the rule of law.

Good food helps: cooking stuff I enjoy eating !

I'd also say - attending #Dros25 helped, meeting and chatting with folks who feel the same and are with you in this !

This comes too late for #dros25 but maybe we should all keep this mind ⬇️ for forthcoming air travel originating inside the US, no matter where we go, no matter the purpose, no matter our citizenship or immigration status.

Ok one more #Drosophila #Dros25 Q:

I've never used the NIG-FLY RNAi lines, but will be. Anything I should know?

I guess they're generated with a method similar to GD lines from VDRC (i.e. random insertion, long hairpins). Also PMID27730578 notes may be poorly balanced?

NIG = great price tho! 🤩

I am right there too but wanted to say that attending the amazing Drosophila research conference was a balm for the soul. Super grateful to #GSA and the #Dros25 organizers for putting it together
You know what I miss?

Science. Doing it. Thinking about it. Talking about it. Writing about it. Getting excited about it.

Maybe I’ll get to be a scientist again one day. Maybe it will matter.

Other people on seeing Giraffes - they are so pretty !!

Us Grad students- ohh their brains are small, their cardiovascular system has more valves, their feet have super tight muscles which all helps them bend down to have water 😅

They are such tall, elegant creatures ❤️❤️❤️!!

At #dros25, two classic song lyrics characterized the mood: "What a long strange trip it's been" for Denise Montell's plenary talk & for Linda Restifo's poster.

"You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" covered the politics.

But re. this ⬇️ : "You're so vain."

Hey #Drosophila Sky and #Dros25 folks, I'm looking to help someone screen some candidate genes in muscle via RNAi.

Any recommended Gal4s? Right now planning on Mef2-GAL4, but in past have noticed this driver has some lethality in parent stock (in my old lab), so another option would be good.
