The waxwing is a plump, a little larger than a starling-sized bird with very soft, silky feathers and a distinctive, prominent crest that lays flat and droops over the back of its head. To imagine its texture, think of a very smooth, fine, and dense silk to the touch

Couple of imm Kestrels having a bit of a dog fight at Cosmeston Lakes CP this morning in v poor light. Photos are huge crops as they were quite high. Nice to watch tho'. The 1st Kes alighted on the W paddock hedge and was then flushed by the 2nd. I wasn't ready for that! #birdingWales #ukbirding

Hadn't been to Cosmeston for a week so went to see my crows & take them some suet pellets. It was very quiet but the number of Persistent waxcaps (Hygrocybe acutoconica) in the fields was nice to see. #FungiFriends #waxcaps

Tempie and I had a lovely few hours exploring the lakes and countryside at Cosmeston Lakes. Glad I made the effort to take her somewhere instead of spending another day off work just walking the streets.

Today we’ve walked through trees, through fields, along a boardwalk through marshland, around a tiny medieval village, and around a lake (twice around the lake). Mum says we’ve not been to Cosmeston Lakes since I was a puppy and I’m 7 now. We should walk here more often.
Me, a dog, sat on a boardwalk next to a lake, looking out into the distance. Me, stood in the boardwalk, looking over my left shoulder at my mum. Me sat on the pathway that leads into the tiny medieval medieval village. There is a stone barn with a thatched roof behind me. Mum says it isn’t the original barn, the rebuilt the buildings based on the foundations they found in the ground. Me, stood in a field, looking over my right shoulder at my mum. I want to cover over the little wooden bridge into another field, but mum said not today. So we walked through the field we were already in.

Cosmeston a.m. Hobby flew over my head from golf course and landed in tree by E lake [with its back to me!]. Immed chased off by Crow Then saw it later v high over W lake and then E paddock. Rubbish photos but v nice to see. Flight pic is a HUGE crop #birdingWales #ukbirding #cosmeston

A few winged creatures from Cosmeston earlier: still a few Speckled woods (& a surprise 3rd brood Holly blue - no pic), a gorgeous European hornet (looking like it's contemplating snacking on the tiny white spider but didn't), a few Common darters & Migrant hawkers flying.

With a lifelong passion for the natural environment my other half often returns home with some super images. Hobbies (+dragonfly) at Cosmeston Country park yesterday. They are probably only here for a short while now as like other birds they only visit for specific periods of the year.
