The Merlin, handheld "video" game from 1978, includes 6 games. Take apart guide.
It's just two Phillip screws and a clip at the top and bottom. A ribbon cable connects the buttons. And all but two of the battery connectors just pop out, the other two get pushed through the hole.

Reflecting, we built the historic system as a monolithic grid with large generators sending power down brachiating AC lines because that made sense at the time. What if that's not sensible anymore? What if it could be better done hybridized with DC & AC semi-islands, batteries & connectors? 🤷

a budget solution to this is to use the pins from these little RGB connectors, and yank them out of the plastic component. they're not quite as strong as tailor made pins but they work very well.

I mean, it's all threaded connectors these days, so it's basically just like big boy lego but really icky and gross.

But I have a functioning sink again now which is better.

Two of 200 connectors were soldered in the wrong orientation. The solder bath was a great help. Used some masking tape and carefully pulled them out, after the solder joints melted simultaneously. It was a flux mess. The nano sponges were good to clean up after the rework.

what happens if you detach a robot's genital module and then just shove it the other way around back into the connectors :3

On my wish list:

• A local line along the Fairmount Commuter Rail down to the Fairmount stop.
• A local line that goes out to Chelsea and Everett.
• Connectors on the outskirts (a loop?) that makes it easy to get from the end points to other end points.

More transit everywhere all the time.

44 pin connectors are small and fiddly, I have once shorted one myself once just by lining up the pins incorrectly. The cables are also very thin, I would not risk it. If there was a full-size Molex then it would be different

Don't ever use the push in wire connectors on outlets, even though it's fully within code it relies on a spring to provide contact with the wire. Springs wear out, just use the screw terminals, which will not wear out.

I got wondering if I could somehow connect the keyboard as a USB device, but short answer is no. Also how to use the keyboard without the trackpad is not obvious, as it (and the backlight) use the trackpad as a hub before connecting to the motherboard.

Welp, TO THE WIKI for pinouts... 😋

This was a difficult build, with a ton of moving, fiddly parts; constantly felt like I was going to break it like an eggshell at all times. The shoulder joints connecting the arms to the chest *did* break; the connectors were very fragile and as a result I had to glue the arms in place.

Most of the cost is in the infrastructure *FOR* the chips. In the same way fibre connectors got upgraded later by more sophisticated devices using more spectrum at each end. We'll use it later if all the LLM companies value collapses. (2/2)
