#Colourisation
oh Christ. Those are horrendous. It's the absolute worst when you share a fine old photo and some twat drops an unsolicited Ai colourisation and 'restoration' into your replies and wants to be congratulated for it. It's not even as if they did any of the work in fucking it up.

I haven’t been to Hamble for yonks but I bet that this view hasn’t altered all that much. As you say, The Bugle is still there!
It‘s a really, really nice old postcard image with such attractive colourisation going on.

Every project begins with a question: how can we bring this story to life authentically?

Colour is our way of connecting audiences with the humanity behind the history.

I think it would be marvelous if The Tenth Planet was announced to be the next 1960s Doctor Who story to get the colourisation re-edit treatment

I'm expecting for a possible announcement of some missing Doctor Who episodes being rediscovered after 12 years and what is the next 1960s Doctor Who story to get the colourisation re-edit treatmant on #DoctorWhoDay

Every colourised frame is a collaboration between history and creativity.

Our role is to make the past resonate with today’s audiences. Faithfully, vividly, and beautifully.

Really interesting read on the challenges AI poses to documentaries, truth, and the archive. All of this of course extends to static as well as moving images — and the full spectrum of colourisation to fabrication.

When done with care, colourisation doesn’t replace history; it enhances it.

It adds depth, emotion, and accessibility to the stories we all share.

I'm not keen on colourisation, but then I don't have to watch if I don't want to. I've never felt black and white to be a barrier, but then there was quite a lot of black and white telly when I was growing up (slapstick films, Champion the wonder horse etc) so perhaps that's why

If you want to bear witness to a perverse experiment, here's the de-silentised 2005 German dub of The Lost World, which removes all intertitles and hastily dubs in all the dialogue. Thought colourisation was offensive? Try this on for size!

I loathe colourisation, and don't really understand the point of it, but that's not actually actively awful. Believe me that's a win, coming from me...😉🤣

Can't say I'm convinced by the whole colourisation thing, but the routine itself… Wow. I'm exhausted just from watching it.

also managed to get dmg colourisation working, plus the hardware-defined palettes for classics like dmg pokemon red/blue.

learning a ton along the way - timing quirks, palette behaviour, vram rules… gbc graphics are deeper than they look.

Colour doesn’t alter history, it amplifies it.

It gives the stories, emotions, and people behind the footage a chance to be seen as they truly were.

The moment colour touches an old frame, something powerful happens.

You stop watching history and start experiencing it.

Lovely picture (even if I'm not totally convinced by the colourisation). The - it turns out - 1932 registered Mercedes lorry is easily as surprising as the giraffe...
