It’s a problem that has existed from the foundation of the republic. While checks and balances exist theoretically in the Constitution, *all* enforcement mechanisms are under the direction of the executive. If the executive simply refuses to cooperate there doesn’t seem to be any recourse.

That all of this is happening without accountability suggests to me that the system of checks and balances is failing in the very moment that it was designed for. A good idea in principle, but where is the shortfall?

tbf, soldiers are "just following orders"; so, there is a clear issue with our checks and balances where "military action" is taken without regard to the "legality" of the orders. i'm trained to follow the orders, complete the mission; that's my job.
