I enjoy spending my days w other food nerds. The way most of us are constantly helping each other is heartening. It’s strange switching b/t writer me & culinary me. I look forward to merging the two soon. Not that they weren’t always interconnected. Anyhow, I learned a 9-plait challah today.
A lady w two long, dark braids in chef’s whites makes a silly gesture, face, & stance over three distinctly plaited (3, 6, 9) challah loaves. Think jazz hands but over bread. She’s so proud.

Anyway, gutted out this morning’s run and ignored the creepy old white guy following me at the park. More trouble for him than me if he’d tried any shit.

I get a shower and a cuppa now, plus someone is experimenting with their challah-baking game again. Not a bad deal.

I was digging around in my china cabinet to find cookie tins for my shortbreads, and found my challah cover again. It is exquisitely handmade, a gift from one of my most cherished friends.
A linen Challah cover, hand-stitched with a motif of flowers and birds at the four corners. In the centre is a circular frame of ivy that says “Shabbat Shalom” around it, and inside the circle is the Jewish blessing for bread, in Hebrew letters.
