Inspired by Glass's May featured category 'bokeh' (https://glass.photo/explore/categories/bokeh) I've been on the hunt for fun out of focus backgrounds all month — I think this vintage taxi at the reception door at #CartonHouse Hotel near #Maynooth was my best success 🙂 #bloomscrolling

Having found big and small trefoils with clover-like leaves in the lawn in front of #CartonHouse near #Maynooth, I found some actual clover, white clover to be specific. #bloomscrolling

A little bit bigger than it’s lesser cousin there’s also Bird’s-foot Trefoil hiding in the lawn in front of #CartonHouse near #Maynooth. #bloomscrolling

The colours of Kildare in winter. A view west into the plains of Co. Kildare from the hill in #CartonHouse on a winter lunchtime. Even shortly after noon the sun never rises very high into the sky in deep winter, hence the evening-like tones. The spire is St. Patrick's College in #Maynooth.

The little golfers rest room #CartonHouse #Maynooth always looks a little alpine with its wooden construction and pitched roof, but not looked even more during the recent cold snap!

A closer view of Tyrconnell Tower in #CartonHouse #Maynooth, the picnic bench next to the tower caught my eye, giving a nice sense of scale.

I don't really have any opinions of about golf — I'm sure it's lovely for those who enjoy it, but it's not my thing. I generally don't focus on the golf aspects of #CartonHouse #Maynooth, but with those very white trees as a backdrop the very green putting green and the yellow flag caught my eye.

A third, much wider, view of Tyrconnell Tower in #CartonHouse #Maynooth perched on its hilltop over the rapidly thawing golf course.

As much as I loved my original colour version of this shot of Tyrconnell Tower in #CartonHouse #Maynooth, I couldn’t resist a dramatic monochrome treatment 🙂

Tyrconnell Tower in #CartonHouse near #Maynooth mid-thaw. The trees are still white with thick hoar frost, as are the shaded regions the sun had yet to shine, but where the sun has been, Ireland's usual lush green is on display.

My photographic challenge to myself for 2024 was to shoot more and better monochromes, for 2025 I'll be exploring using colours in and of themselves as subjects. To get the ball rolling, these different colour regions in #CartonHouse #Maynooth caught my eye.

The mixture of sun, clearing skies, and the rapidly thawing remnants of the morning's frost provided an excellent opportunity for a dramatic monochrome of the boathouse in #CartonHouse #Maynooth.

The thaw in progress in #CartonHouse #Maynooth. The last night of our recent cold snap was very foggy, so lots of hoar frost formed, then the sky cleared and the sun came out — the result was a lovely mix of green, white and blue!

When our recent cold snap broke the winter sun burst forth! The grounds in #CartonHouse #Maynooth looked beautiful bathed in soft winter sun under a vivid blue sky with just hints of white hoar frost lingering in the shadows. I just couldn't resist yet another snap of the iconic boathouse 🙂

If maple is my favourite autumn tree, then beech is definitely a close second. Not only do they bring beautiful orange colours, their leaves also have the nicest rustle under foot 🙂

The grand old beeches in #CartonHouse #Maynooth are fine examples.
