I retired 12 years ago.
I took over a school 3 years ago that needed some serious help and sorted it out.
I still support parents/carers in navigating the SEND education system.
Always happy to speak to parents/carers experiencing difficulties. 😉🙂

Many ill & disabled people who simply can't work (and their unpaid family carers) are living in fear that more essential support will be cut after the Timms review. The prev planned cuts to PIP were devastating. UC health (sickness benefit) has already been halved for newly ill/disabled people

Every night, the lights are bright, the headlines loud — but the real news is missing. While the media fixates on Trump, Farage and the Royals, Britain’s children go hungry, families can’t afford homes, and carers are exhausted.

Sick people need care. Whether transient or permanent, it is a huge challenge to regular work.
How many times do hear how many working age folks aren't engaged with/seeking work since 2020?
Perhaps carers? Or, to my next point, do they have preventable long term illness?

Thank you to @declanwalsh.bsky.social who first met Dr. Eltayeb last year, at the height of the battle for Khartoum, when he spent a day at the hospital. It was later shelled repeatedly, killing patients and carers. Here’s his reporting:

Especially when the person experiencing the medical emergency is already surrounded by responders/carers and you know from experience that you *also* fainting or having a panic attack will not help the situation. Even if it’s your first rodeo, you may experience an overwhelming urge to get out. 2/2

My Mum was in a care home for 3 years before her death. I saw her develop a social circle of those she wanted to be with depsite her reduced cognitive ability. I saw her develop relationships with her carers. I would have fought the forced closure of her home tooth and nail. We trusted them 1/2
If this is what happens when Reform runs a council, just imagine Farage running the country.
Care homes closed and vulnerable people abandoned.
We cannot let Trump’s America become Farage’s Britain.

If ppl in UK really dont want to accept refugees & migrants, they need to pressure govt to stop supporting & engaging in war. But also have to accept there'll be no carers/ care homes for elderly relatives, far fewer NHS staff, no Just Eat & other deliveries & many unfilled min wage zero hours jobs.

how long have we been hearing about Japan using robots for elder-care? it's been something like 30 years.
it still hasn't happened - indeed, studies found the robots made MORE work for human carers.

These criteria will apply in some cases of course, but there are tens of thousands of carers of folk whose immune system isn't the reason behind the need for care eg dementia. And the worry is things get desperately complicated when the carers can't cope, putting pressure on NHS and social care.

How do we rescue the economy from Brexit with this increased health burden? Yes, break down barriers to working, but also perhaps PREVENT ILLNESS IN THE FIRST PLACE?!
How many people and/or families/carers are affected by this? What are the costs to the NHS, society, the economy?

They discharged Mom home at 11:00 last night without letting us or the carers know.
By 12:00 today she was back in hospital.
I don't like to criticise, but this was wrong-headed!

I'm so grateful to everyone who sent their good wishes for my Mom.
She's comfortable and her vitals are good. I've been in touch with my sister all day.
She'll come though I'm sure.
Thanks a million, it's much appreciated. 🙏 X
