More #CROI2025 news: Body mass index alone may be a poor measure of heart disease risk in people with HIV, underscoring the importance of screening for excess visceral abdominal fat. Waist circumference is a good indicator.

BMI May Underestimate Cardiovascular Risk in People With HIV
A new formulation of Egrifta, which is easier to administer, may help reduce visceral fat and improve metabolic health.

Most recently (#CROI2025), ACTG 5383 showed that treating latent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection with letermovir led to reduced inflammation & improvements in immune function & physical function. Over 1/2 of HIV+ people in US are 50+, so interventions for aging are increasingly important. 5/

More news from #CROI2025. A functional cure for HIV is not around the corner, but promising results like these underscore the need for continued research.
Broadly neutralizing antibodies appeared to help keep HIV under control after stopping antiretroviral therapy & may play a role in long-term remission, according to two studies presented at #CROI2025, one of which enrolled African women who bear the brunt of the global epidemic.
Can Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies Keep HIV in Remission?
Specialized HIV-fighting antibodies might one day be part of a strategy for a functional cure.
