The only warm geeky feels I can compare it to is when #ComputerChronicles used to be hosted by #GaryKildall.

Repetitive work is what led us to create libraries, frameworks, metaframeworks, CLIs, and all sorts of tools.
Don't always depend on AI for repetitive tasks; instead, abstract them and make them accessible to everyone.
That’s what fuels innovation.

npm has one of the worst CLIs I've ever used.
Me: npm deprecate <existing-package>
npm: '<existing-package>' is not in this registry.
Me literally clicking on the 404 link it prints: opens the existing package.

Discover has historically been super generous with CLIs.
AmEx can be with the right profile too.
My credit building got a huge boost for a few years because AmEx and Discover were competing to be my largest credit line. Half the time auto CLI after they saw the other one hit my credit report.

mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/request/down... works great. Convert to okta to get %. Caution on using augmented METARs vs. raw obs. I wish I could say "AUTO" delineates, but that's not always the case. 😐 Can also use "average cloud cover" from CLIs, but that's daytime only.

I read that they use too many tokens in the context, and that a well made CLI tool does the job better.

Automate it :).
For any of the projects I'm involved in, all I need is `devbox services up`.
It installs and configures CLIs, install project dependencies, starts all sorts of needed servers.
Hot-reloading enabled so all I do is write code, test, repeat.

Even better? Vendors are always updating the CLIs and aitools makes it super easy to keep up even though they all have different install/update methods. Works on Windows, macOS and Linux.

aitools is now in the PowerShell Gallery. It's so easy to use, I love it. It wraps 7 AI CLIs and gives them the same predictable parameter usage. No more `--help` trying to figure out which switch does what. Now, I bop between CLIs super easily.

It's INSANE! These CLIs will download images for you so you can stop using external hosting. They'll look up people's Bluesky accounts to replace the Twtr links. Update command names. Put lil notes that give context about how dated the information is. Rewrite old tables. Here's some diffs + aitools.

I was thinking about this the other day; we’re soon going to see `—llms` or similar being added to CLIs just so that can play all the more fully.

I mean MCP as a protocol; I think it probably makes more sense for models to write/run code or CLIs and to have those intermediate the security and access stuff independently of the model
