The first piece of evidence is the extremely late attestation of the Georgian form, in the 17th century, and different earlier words in Old Georgian for the same concept: ირისე irise from Greek ἶρις and the even older form მშჳლდი ცისაჲ mšvildi cisay 'bow of the sky'.
